Release notes:

""Power, Propaganda, Production!" is the new MILITIA album and it's a bull's eye! The six famous muscle workers from Belgium have not only unleashed a new production following their 2005 album "Everything Is One" on the new defunct Tactical but have also set a new milestone in their long-running industrial career. The album contains eleven new studio tracks dealing with the very topics MILITIA has always been pointing at during their provocative career: the relation between industry, the dictatorial capitalist system and the situation of the subordinate workers, the economic and financial crisis, the power of the dollar, the exploitation of human and natural resources and reserves, pollution and global warming, the and-needs-and-rights of the oppressed, the strength of unity and solidarity as a means to wipe the floor with governments, regimes and religions that are based on greed, corruption and cruelty.

Militia is a Belgian industrial-percussion band, founded in 1989 by multi instrumentalists Frank Gorissen and Jo Billen. Most of our percussion instruments are made out of oil barrels and old metal parts from cars and machines. They combine these self made instruments with conventional drums, toms and cymbals. The band members also play a variety of self-made wind instruments and tools.

"Power, Propaganda, Production!" comes in a deluxe cardboard box with an 8-page booklet and a magnificent MILITIA politburo mini-poster, all designed by Metastazis from France. The six percussion players are lined up in front of the new flag, fists clenched, shoulder to shoulder, stronger than ever, armed with their huge metal and skin percussion installations to crash the corrupt systems under their boots!"

After 6 years of silence, a new Militia LP was released in March 2011, consisting of 11 pieces of glorious propaganda. If you heard and liked their earlier albums ("Everything Is One" and "The Black Flag Hoisted"), I'll definitely recommend it to you; otherwise you may find it too lengthy and boring, especially if you aren't familiar with this kind of music. Anyway, this is one more time Militia have proved to be good successors to (early) Laibach, and the cover art is great too.

And now, here comes something completely different from everything I've posted before. It's not black metal, or any other kind of metal/punk at all - it is experimental industrial/ambient music based on percussion and sampling. And of course, it's inspired by radical anarchist beliefs - just look at the tracks' names. Martial industrial and neofolk scene always seemed to be predominately right-wing, so it was very surprising to me to discover such band as Militia. Furthermore, the band has a relatively long history (over 20 years of activity):

"Militia is a Belgian industrial percussion band. It was founded in 1989 by the multi-instrumentalist Frank Gorissen and wind instrument player Jo Billen and now 6 musicians are involved. The band is known for its use of self made percussion and wind instruments and the scrap material they transform into musical instruments. The band's music is often inspired by the anarchic and atheist social views and their concern about our natural environment, themes that can be found in most of their lyrics and statements"

See this Wikipedia article for more info about Militia (the article is very informative and has lots of external links). Or you can just download both two sides of the album, and enjoy some contemporary anarchist music which isn't not based on punk at all (it's a very rare thing, I guess).

It's latest up-to-date album by Militia, and for me it's slightly less dark and more melodic than "The Black Flag Hoisted". You think about experimental industrial as a very noisy music, but "Everything Is One" is definitely not that case. According to some sources, Militia's music was much inspired by Test Dept., who were anarchists (or at least very left-wing) too. Anyway, Militia are one of the very few bands on the martial industrial scene who dare to proclaim their anarchist views openly, so I think they deserve our support.

Kolaps Systému - "Militia" (2012)

KOLAPS SYSTEMU "Militia"

Year: 2012
Genre: Noise / Power Electronics
Country: Slovakia

DOWNLOAD

Another recent release from Kolaps Systému, this time an one-track EP inspired by the history of eco-terrorism. In terms of sound, it isn't much different from their previous releases - 12 minutes of politically charged harsh noise. They're similar to Frostwinter in terms of ideology, I think, but their sound is more aggressive.

Yes, Dažd have released their first full-length album, and thanks to some anonymous who had posted a link to it in my blog. In comparison with their earlier releases, their sound drifted away from crust and black metal to sludge/doom and stoner rock. It's up to you to decide, good it or not.

buy it @ Hell Militia

P.S. Don't you think I'm posting too much blackened crust and too little BM (and other kinds of metal)? I have many more interesting releases to you, and I'll post them in the next few days. Most of them are blakened crust too, but there are also many black metal and other metal releases. Stay tuned!

Conrad is the only metal project from Barbados, a relatively small island in the Caribbean. The band was started on August 5th 2009 in the Eastern Grasslands of St. Philip by then 17-year old Kadeem Ward (Veldt Soldaat/Emdeka). Members of such black metal bands as Fornost (Nicaragua) and Orisha Shakpana (Jamaica) have also contibuted to Conrad's releases.

As for the name - Conrad is said to be an irritable ghost from the Bajan mythology who possessed women and live in their stomaches. According to the project's mastermind, "With the goal to preserve and teach historical tales and ancestral myths, Conrad fuses the elements of Afro-Caribbean rhythms & sounds with epic orchestral ambience and highly distorted riffs influenced by the groundbreaking bands of the early Norwegian Black Metal scene. The project’s themes are highly focused on Barbadian folklore which either tells dark or mesmerizing tales about the island’s early inhabitants, nature, paranormal events and various mythical creatures. Other lyrical themes reflect on early African Tribes, Orishas and pirates of the Caribbean".

While the music of Conrad is definitely influenced by black metal, overall it's more of ambient folk/pagan metal with LOTS of synths. Or maybe even "pirate metal"?.. yaarrr!!! Anyway, it's much better than I expected, very melodic and atmospheric (but not very raw or brutal). The archive includes all the artwork and lyrics (some of which are even in Yoruba language!), along with mp3 files.

Today, Kadeem Ward is working on Conrad's next demo, "Conrad Within". Looks like the society of Barbados is very hostile to any forms of metal, and it's hard to him to find any like-minded people there, but he have already found a drummer. This future release will be far more darker and eerie in terms of the musical, lyrical and visual aspects entailed. Of course I'd upload it too, if he send it to me. It's cool to have readers even in Barbados!
