Kerberos is a new metallic crust project led by Iowa Ababil, a member of a several bands which already were featured on my blog - Winternight, World To Be Ashes, etc. They're based out of Bandung (Indonesia), and "Amnesia Haze" is their debut 5-track EP which was sent to me by Iowa himself. And before I'm gone, here's one more compilation that deserves your attention. It features 4 projects from Indonesia, which all consist of pretty much the same people. Of them, Winternight (dark ambient) and World To Be Ashes (blackened crust) already were featured on my blog before.

"This compilation comes from an idea one among us, until we agreed to make it happen. When something sacred become commonplace, and when things are banal regarded as something special, or when the world offers something all too familiar to be the daily consumption, because the music for us is nothing more than change the form of an idea into an infinite rebellion the values of life that is now offered with no moderation, so that each of us well aware of the life that we live individually or in community. Although we basically did not have a great community, and also as proof that no matter how small communities can produce a creation if the community really wants, without having to rely on the larger community, we also want to emphasize that this is not always the kind of music identical with certain revolutionary ideas in order to escape the life torn by capitalist-consumerist system of the world today, so with any kind of construction we were still able to represent our imaginative dreams about life and its realization. So for us our little community that makes us realize that when a civilization of music here today experiencing a prolonged period of boredom, so we keep our own adventure with a desire to create something that might mean so much to us to provide us with a modest anyway. World To Be Ashes are a 3-piece blackened crust/sludge band from Bandung, Indonesia, formed by members of Jenath (black metal) and Madnessyouth (hardcore). Their music is influenced by crust, black metal, doom, sludge, post-metal, hardcore, post-rock and drone. Related projects also include Winternight, Hatelord, and I.Owe.You. "Fraud" is their first single, released only a few days ago, and it will be the first blackened crust/RABM release from Indonesia posted here.

It's curious to see how Indonesia becomes the biggest producer of metal and punk in Asia, leaving behind even Japan (and I'm talking not only about the death metal scene). As for this single - the music is quite good (especially for a first demo), but the vocals are a big problem. "Fraud" could be an excellent demo, if not for the vocals. Iowa Ababil (vocalist/guitarist of WTBA and sole member of Winternight) is definitely a very good composer of music, but I'd recommend him to find a better vocalist for WTBA.

I'm posting this EP mostly because the founder of this one-man project from Bandung (Indonesia) is also involved in a blackened crust band called World To Be Ashes (formerly known as Display Of Vulgar Mayhem). So far they haven't recorded anything except one rehearsal demo track, but they definitely know about RABM scene and support it. As for Winternight, it's a minimalistic neoclassical/ambient project which has released two EPs and one split demo up to date.


Release notes:

"Year 2006 was a very terrible for my personal life, also the year that I no longer play music. Alienation in those years led me to a saturation point in playing music, until finally I decided to make a solo project named Winternight with minimal skills and limited understanding of music.

I do not have a good reason about taking the name, I just call it like-it, and that too is enough to describe …the alienation represent nights that I spent in those years. And Winternight has brought me to a room where I found many other apocalypse than just play music.

But this is a melancholia which I have never loved. When a lot of catharsis that I can not tell by my previous bands. In Winternight I found a simpler way to describe something even if only through the effects of sampling. At least I was not imprisoned in words. Because words are never enough to expose it. For that I do not need to write the lyrics or the vocal sounds included in it, I just play the tone and enter the sampling that I was never concerned with the rules of right or wrong chord. As well as to represent alienation, I just enter the sampling wind and waves with the atmosphere of a quiet night, or enter a sampling of war to represent anger.
Song Of The Dead Loner is more like journey that takes the silence of the world from a very disturbing noise, is also an escape from anxiety and loneliness that continually haunt, where I lost a lot of people nearby who leaves me without a trail"

Note that there's two more bands called Winternight - one from Germany and another one from Hungary, both playing pagan black metal.

Grave Dancers (or "Pedansa Kuburan") are a political thrash metal/hardcore band from Jakarta, whose music is highly inspired by classical crust punk, d-beat and crossover. "Morbid Nation" is their debut full-length release, and it's quite good. The cover art is just excellent, somehow reminds me of the opening sequence of Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (the scene of a riot in Tokyo). Looks like there's a relatively big hardcore/thrash scene in Indonesia, but most of these bands are unknown to the whole world...
