  6. Jericho's pride
  7. Dar es salaam

Ok, BVDK, is an experimental post-black metal band from France, the last year we featured their EP here. Now they came with this interesting mix between black metal and Ethnic music paying tribute to africanvoodoo, haitan voodoo and oriental culture in this record. Even if they don't speak about politics in their lyrics, they are supporters of the RABM
movement and causes like Decolonization, Feminism, LGBTQ+ rights, Vegetarism,
etc...

You can stream and download the album for free in bandcamp.

Chambre Froide - "Rouges Chapelle" (2016)

CHAMBRE FROIDE "Rouges Chapelle"

Year: 2016
Genre: Black Metal
Country: France

Track List:

SIDE A
  1. L'opprobre
  2. Sans Lumière
  3. Pilori Fange Meutre
SIDE B
  1. Cicatrices
  2. Les Efants de Baal
  3. Rouges Chapelles
Chambre Froide (Cold Room) is a French Black Metal band that has been featured in this blog before. As far as i know there's not too much information about them; even though this is not necessary because their music in extremely good. All I know is they are from Bordeaux France and that this is an anarchist black metal project related to Gasmask Terror and Ravensdöm.

Their new release is a cassette that you can listen to the "side a" here, and to the "side b" here.

Red Winter - demo I (1999)

RED WINTER "demo I"

Year: 1999
Genre: Black Metal
Country: France

Track List:

  1. First Toil Then The Grave pt.1
  2. First Toil Then The Grave pt.2
  3. First Toil Then The Grave pt.3
  4. The Strike
  5. Tchabye
  6. Cut an' Paste
  7. Toward The Twilight (Night in Gales)
It's almost impossible to find any reliable info about this band, so they might very well be another joke band like the ones featured in my previous entry, but I found their music to be quite interesting. The only place on the net where you can find this demo is this blog, and while I can't say it's an NSBM blog, it's certainly not RABM-friendly. The thing is that its owner is very much against his own rips being re-posted by other sites, and I think I should honor that, despite all ideological disagreements. This demo is really rare and obscure stuff, after all. The band had released at least one other demo in 2000, so let's hope that someone would find and rip it too.

Carabia - "Apologie d'une fin..." (2015)

CARABIA "Apologie d'une fin..."

Year: 2015
Genre: Black Metal, Blackened Punk
Country: France

Track List:
  1. Apologie d'une fin ...
  2. Fantasme de Destruction
  3. Qu'une question de temps ...
bandcamp

A demo from an one-man project based out of Brest, France. If I understood correctly, the author doubts if it can be called RABM, because the lyrics are about the end of the world rather than changing it, yet he's still an activist who loves and plays black metal.
P.S. My apologies for not reviewing anything in a while, I had some problems during the recent few weeks, including problems with my computer. Hopefully I'll post everything I received during that time until the end of this year.

Sordide - "La France a peur" (2014)

SORDIDE "La France a peur"

Year: 2014
Genre: Black Metal
Country: France

Track List:
  1. Ni nom ni drapeau
  2. Blâme
  3. Gloire
  4. L'innocence
  5. La France a Peur
  6. Pauvre Histoire
  7. Violence
DOWNLOAD

Sordide are a BM power trio formed at the end of 2013 in Normandy (northern France). "La France a peur" is their debut full-length album released on 1st December 2014 through Avantgarde Music. They claim that my activities in the RABM movement seem to fit perfectly with their music and ethic, and mostly agree with the answer in my FAQ regaring the quiestion of misanthropy in RABM. As for the sound, I recommend to check out this review, which is pretty detailed and should give you a good idea of what to expect from this album. With my somethat limited knowledge of French BM scene, I'd agree with the main point of that review - it's a very "French" release, despite the "no name, no flag" rhetoric. According to the band, the follow-up album is already in the works.

Bonus: a cover version of a popular song by Renaud, a French chanson singer well known for "a volatile temperament, innovative use of French, and edgy, dark, left-wing social and political themes" (Wikipedia):

In Cauda Venenum - s/t (2015)

IN CAUDA VENENUM "In Cauda Venenum"

Year: 2015
Genre: (Post-)Black Metal
Country: France

Track List:
  1. Ωlpha
  2. Θmega
Not an explicitly political band, but they play good music and claim to discover a lot of great stuff due to my blog, so why not to support them? The Invisible Oranges zine defined their sound as "like a folk-less PANOPTICON", which I can't fully agree with, yet the similarities to Panopticon and a lot of other atmospheric (RA)BM/Cascadian bands are definitely audible on this album. It consists of two long tracks, ~42 minutes total playing time. Recommended for the fans of both atmospheric BM and doom metal.

bandcamp

There are numerous bands under the name "Satan", some of which are playing black metal, some aren't. Fun fact: there even was an obscure Russian pop band called "Satana" formed in early 1990s. Beside the probably most well-known NWOBHM Satan, S.A.T.A.N. from Poland, and many other bands under this name, there are "possessed punks" from Grenoble (France) who started playing together in 2009 and released their debut full-length album not so long ago.

coutoentrelesdents - DIY anarcho-rap collective from France

Of course, this Shai Hulud isn't the well-known American hardcore band, but a rap artist who's a part of coutoentrelesdents (literally "knife between the teeth") - an anarchist rap/punk collective from France who reads my blog and appreciates my work of deconstructing the cliches around BM and hardcore. It isn't the kind of music that's posted on my blog normally, and the message of their lyrics probably won't be accessible to those of you who don't speak French (which is probably the majority of my readers), but I still appreciate their efforts and think they should be mentioned on here. Their releases are freely available off their bandcamp page.

Genre: Blackened Death Metal
Country: France

Track List:
  1. Intro
  2. Permian Mass Extinction
  3. Rancoeur et Amertume
  4. Paleochaosphère
  5. Necrosophie

The members of Morgon have sent me this full-length album which I overlooked back in 2012. Since the release of Morgon's first demos their style has shifted from raw black metal to death metal, which some people didn't like, yet the band remains to be DIY and anarchist.

Worhs - "Le Temps des Blasphèmes" (2014)

WORHS "Le Temps des Blasphèmes"

Year: 2014
Genre: Black Metal
Country: France/Turkey

Track List:
  1. Fils d'un Avenir Corrompu
  2. Ces Terres Maudites
  3. Fanatisme ?
  4. Les Yeux Ouverts
  5. Destroyers of His Story
  6. Anitkabir ou le Triste Constat
  7. La Mémoire Profanée
DOWNLOAD

Worhs started in June 2014 as a collaboration between WLWD, a metal journalist from Paris (Metallian, Horns Up, Metalliquement Vôtre), and  Emir Togrul, a musician from Turkey (Yayla, Viranesir, Blliigghhtted), initially under the name "Destroyers of History"). Musically, it's old school black metal (reminding me of Profecium for some reason), and the political part of their lyrics is mostly critical of the conservative party that rules Turkey nowadays. "Le Temps des Blasphèmes" is the debut full-length from Worhs, which was released November this year (right now Worhs is an one-man project of WLWD). The whole album is available for preview on youtube:

One more band that's significantly influenced by Ash Borer, WITTR, etc., although they're quite far from the Cascadian region. Cepheide are a 3-piece band from Paris, started this year by a member of a DSBM project Scaphandre. The demo is self-produced, and intended to be "without artifice & based on feelings".

FILTHY CHARITY / BUTCHER PROJECT

Year: 2013

This is the Filthy Charity's side of their 10'' split that was released last year. I already have mentioned this very long-running band from Marseille on my blog, but I don't remember if I have posted any of their releases before. A short review of this split can be found on crust-demos blog.

Ravensdöm & The Austrasian Goat - split (2012)

RAVENSDOM / THE AUSTRASIAN GOAT & THE VNTRVE ENSEMBLE

Year: 2012
Genre: Raw Black Metal, Blackened Punk
Country: France

Track List:

The Austrasian Goat
  1. Intro
  2. Counterfeit
  3. A Decade in Dust
  4. Shed
  5. The Agonist
  6. The Purity of a Clenched Fist
Ravensdöm
  1. Séculaire
  2. Divisions
  3. La Fille du Diable
  4. Abandon
DOWNLOAD

I think both Ravensdöm and The Austrasian Goat need no introduction, as I already have several their releases posted on my blog. This split, just like the albums of some other French anarchist BM bands, comes as a cassette rip with only 2 long tracks ("Side A" & "Side B"). Thanks to X. for posting this release!

Haut&Court - "La Vie" (2012)

HAUT&COURT "La Vie"

Year: 2012
Genre: Deathgrind
Country: France

Track List:
  1. Let it Burst
  2. Krokodil
  3. This Genesis
  4. Collision
  5. Life
  6. Wasted time for wasted minds
DOWNLOAD

Haut&Court (which means "hang them high" or something along these lines) are a 3-piece anarchist grindcore/mathcore band from Strasbourg. This EP is short yet very powerful, I think it's comparable to "Gleichschritt" by Neuron (one of the best crust-influenced death/grind albums, in my opinion). Recommended!

bandcamp / interview

P.S. There's one more grindcore band from France that deserves your attention. They're called Filthy Charity, and a download link for their split w/ Wardead can be found here. (However, I'm not sure if I correctly understood what they wrote to me in their email, and if they want this split to be posted on my blog too)

Sedative - "Viceroton" (2012)

SEDATIVE "Viceroton"

Year: 2012
Genre: Death Metal / Grindcore
Country: France / Switzerland

Track List:
  1. Viceroton
  2. Violences Conjugales
  3. Feed In
  4. Euphorie
  5. E-Breed
  6. Vomi
DOWNLOAD

"Viceroton" is a new EP from Sedative, a French death/grind band w/ members of Incrüst in their lineup. Unfortunately I accidentally deleted the e-mail with additional details, so I'd only say that it's a very good EP, although a bit too short. Will check out their full-length releases a little later.

Vehemence - demo (2012)

VEHEMENCE "demo"

Year: 2012
Genre: Blackened Crust / Dark Hardcore
Country: France

Track List:
  1. Torture Yourself
  2. Waves Of Hate
  3. Passion

Vehemence are a new female-fronted dark crust band from France. This demo was sent to me by their vocalist Katya Gloom with very little additional info - but you can check out their blog, if you're interested. The demo is quite good for a first release, offering a solid mix of epic crust and elements of black metal. Hope to hear more from them in the future.

UHL & Devilish Cheat - split (2011)

UHL / DEVILISH CHEAT

  2. Thirsty Demons
  3. Scared Of Who We Are
  4. U.n.H.o.L.y
Devilish Cheat
  1. Intro
  2. World's End
  3. No Mosh
  4. Fakebook
  5. Wargames

  12. Modern Life Is War

  14. Memories Made Flesh
DOWNLOAD

Here's UHL/Devilish Cheat split tape which I mentioned in my previous post. Devilish Cheat are a blackened grindcore project with Julien (The Austrasian Goat) among their members, and their side of the split is GREAT! I also wonder if their track #9 was inspired by my favourite movie of David Cronenberg (if yes, then I'll respect them even more).

UHL - "Demo(niaque)" (2010)

UHL "Demo(niaque)"

Year: 2010
Genre: Raw Black Metal
Country: France

Track List:
  1. Morbid Curiosity
  2. Graveyard
  3. Everlasting Torment
  4. Eliminert Livet
  5. Nihilistic Degenerated
DOWNLOAD

According to the man behind Printemps Noir, UHL are a duo from France playing raw anarcho-black metal. They also released a split w/ Devilish Cheat on 213 records, a label that belongs to Julien Louvet (The Austrasian Goat, ex-Shall Not Kill) who's known for his anarchist sympathies - so I think we can be sure about UHL's beliefs.

Morgon - "Greasy Vomit From The Catacombs" (2012)

MORGON "Greasy Vomit From The Catacombs"

Year: 2012
Genre: Old School Black/Death Metal
Country: France

Track List:
  1. Catacomb ov Ghouls
  2. Permian Massive Extinction
  3. Rancoeur et Amertume
DOWNLOAD

A newest 3-track demo from this French anarchist metal project which sounds like it's from 1990, not 2012. It's quite strange release which sounds much more like very raw old school death metal than BM, so I'd recommend it only to fans of early death metal scene. The members of Morgon are also involved in such projects as Disakrin (very raw BM) and Black Earth & Burning Sunn (noise/drone; hope I remembered the name right).
