Weald - demo (2011)

WEALD "demo"

Year: 2013
Genre: Metallic Crust, Stenchcore
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Black Bloc
  2. Ghost Dance
  3. Tribe
  4. Ecotage

  • Sal - voices
  • Naomi - bass
  • Will - guitar
  • Maria - guitar
  • Shane - drums
Ideologically, Weald are very similar to the majority of RABM and green anarchist BM bands, but their music isn't black metal; it's crust/stenchcore with some death and doom metal elements. Beside this 4-track demo, they have two more track available for streaming off their bandcamp page.

Euphrasia - demo (2013)

Year: 2013
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Switzerland

Track List:
  1. Träumend
  2. Auf dem Boden der Realität
  3. Vergehende Zeiten
  4. Trost
  5. Thanatos

"Musikalischer Ausdruck von der Unzufriedenheit mit dem Jetzt und der Sehnsucht nach einer anderen Welt"

Official first demo of a Swiss atmospheric BM project Euphrasia, self-recorded in 2012. Quite good for a debut (although I'm not sure if such "overloaded" sound was intentional, or it was just a result of poor production/mixing). As for the ideology, the author of the music is an active anarchist and strongly disagrees with any form of oppresion: "For there are too less artists that have a strict position about politics, I want to give another possibility for enjoying atmospheric black metal without having the feeling of listening to a nazi or any other form of idiots"

Valley - "Grindoer/Cleanse" (2012)

VALLEY "Grindoer/Cleanse"

Year: 2013
Genre: Guitar Noise/Drone/Sludge
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Grindoer
  2. Cleanse

An instrumental noise/drone album from a duo of guitarists based out of Brooklyn, NY (one of them is a reader of my blog). Of course it isn't Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music", but might be of interest to those of my readers who are into all kinds of sludge/drone/doom, noise and avant-garde music in general. A cassette version of this release is hopefully going to be out soon.

Örök - s/t (2013)

OROK "Örök"

Year: 2013
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Portugal

Track List:
  1. Krót
  2. Vársÿl
  3. Kärntschzen
  4. Vår

"Örök is a one man black metal project from Porto, Portugal that creates dense music and atmospheres through repetition, tremollo picking, post-something crescendos, cascadian-like progressions, and harsh distorted vocals"... well, I can't say this album as a whole sounds very "cascadian", but at least I can hear influence of bands like Ash Borer. Both lyrics and song titles have no particular meaning, as main goal for the music was to create a certain atmosphere and state of mind.

Deuil - "Acceptance/Rebuild" (2013)

DEUIL "Acceptance/Rebuild"

Year: 2013
Genre: Blackened Sludge
Country: Belgium

Track List:
  1. Acceptance
  2. Rebuild

A self-described "apolitical and atheist black metal/sludge" band from Belgium whose members read and like my blog. I wasn't very impressed by the first few minutes of this record, but the rest of it turned out to be quite good. Release notes from the band: "These belgian guys play something between drone, sludge, black metal and shoegaze stuff. They tried to express their feeling about mourning (named Deuil in french) through their music"

  5. I Want to Hear You Scream
bandcamp / facebook

Wrong is a new project of one of my readers from Madrid, who has played in Banished From Inferno and several other bands. The lyrics on this album deal with depressive/dystopian topics, but the music isn't your typical DSBM. Release notes:

"Wrong was formed in November 2012 by Phlegeton (Wormed, Banished from Inferno, Godüs…) and DP (The YTriple Corporation, Neverdie) in Madrid, Spain. Our commitment to the avant-garde of the metal has led us to create a new black metal project, we present WRONG.

The universe of Wrong focuses their concept on a post-apocalyptic and dystopian earth, where the few people that remain after a devastating earthquake in the core of the earth, struggling for survival in the most disheartening misery between death, sickness, wild clans, cannibalism and savagery, the vision of a dystopian and gray future where the worst stories of human decadence are narrated through obscure passages only for the wandering, abandoned and the wretched souls"

The Tragedy We Live In - s/t (2013)

THE TRAGEDY WE LIVE IN "The Tragedy We Live In"

Year: 2013

  3. There Must Be A Way Out
  4. Wahnsinn
  5. Moving Ice
  6. Artemis
  7. Inside The Demons Heart
  8. Soultaker

Instrumental post-metal from my Belgian readers. Maybe it isn't as interesting as some of the post-metal albums I've posted here before, but it's good enough for a first release.

PunaTerrori - demo (2013)

Year: 2013
Genre: Black Noise
Country: Finland

Track List:
  1. Empires In Ruins
  2. Under The Sign Of The Star
  3. The Path To Our Destiny
  4. Kristittyjen Viimeinen Yö

Raw blackened noise-punk from Finland, a side project of a member of another band which plays standard black metal, musically (not ideologically) influenced mostly by bands like Goatmoon and Satanic Warmaster. The project holds anti-revisionist (but not authoritarian) views and is strongly against any religion, especially Abrahamic ones. For those who wanted really evil, raw black metal that glorifies the revolutionary struggle. If you're unsure whether to download it or not, listen to this track:

BDM & Free Tibet - "Black Vale" (2013)

Year: 2013
Genre: Dark Ambient
Country: Russia

Track List:

Besvikelsens Dystra Monotoni:
  1. Perdition
  2. Nonexistence
  3. Angst
  4. Black Dawn
  5. Prime Cause
  6. Low-spiritedness

  4. The Darkness
  5. The Road Into The Valley Of Death
  6. Unending Depth
  7. Void

A new split between BDM and a new anarcho-ambient project from SPb called Free Tibet. Note that it's a quite lengthy release, so I'd recommend it only to those who's used to listening to a lot of minimalistic dark  ambent.

Katalonia: female fronted anarcho-punk from Moscow

One more band which I forgot to mention in my yesterday's entry: Katalonia. There's almost no info about them, except they're from Moscow and have released their first demo 3 months ago. Of course their music isn't metal, but it's apparently influenced by black metal and blackened crust; most of their lyrics contain a strong feeling against organized religion, plus they have shared the stage with (A)xidanc(E) and Kora a couple of years ago. Here's a video of their performance in Moscow (10th of November 2012):

Quite good for a young band, but: 1) singing in English may be not so wise decision; 2) the interludes when she speaks of what's the next song is about ("The next song is about why consumerism sucks", "The next one is about why authoritarianism sucks"... and so on) sound a bit naive and repetitive. Unfortunately they haven't played my favourite song of theirs - a cover version of a well-known anarchist anthem "A Las Barricadas", so I had to upload it separately:

  11. V

Very chaotic black metal / blackened crust demo from Germany, posted in our facebook group not so long ago. See their bandcamp page for tour dates. And speaking of another German blackened punk band, Vidargängr - they've finally released their first LP, but only a couple of tracks are available off their bandcamp so far.

Shchurdistan - demo (2013)

Year: 2013
Genre: Blackened Punk/Grind
Country: Israel

Track List:

  6. Hell Vals (Hatuunoth)
  7. The 9th Symphony
  8. Agvaniot (garbage party)

"666% DIY garbage punk shit black metal vomitous dbeat noise from israhell", sounds better than I initially thought it to be. Their bandcamp page can be found here. For those who's interested in this kind of music, I can also recommend:

- Absolute Indignation / Discum - two one-man projects from Mexico; the split can be downloaded here or here

- Granados Terror Division or GxTxDx - "anti-humanity DIY blackened grindcore/sludge" from Costa Rica. Badass band name, but their music is somewhat boring (it's only an improvised rehearsal, though)

- Reator04 - one-man noisecore project from Brazil, recently released a split w/ Baphometro

- Angoracoid - anti-religious grindcore from Italy, found them via our facebook group.

CCC CNC NCN were an avant-garde, anarchist, anti-NWO band from Torino (Italy), formed in 1985 by several anonymous members (both musicians and visual artists) after the dissolution of a hardcore/punk band Kollettivo. More info (in Spanish) is available at Musica y Peliculas Acratas (all the download links were taken from there as well). As for me, I don't really understand this kind of proto-industrial music, but fans of noise & various avant-garde stuff could find this interesting. For all others: check out this song, that was featured on a cassette compilation "Inni Della Rivolta" (1994):

V/A - "Nazis Make Me Vomit" (2013)

V/A "Nazis Make Me Vomit!"

Year: 2013
Genre: Noise
Country: various

Track List:
  1. CRACKED CORE - Just Fuck Off
  2. |VIIIV| - I
  3. |VIIIV| - II
  4. RJ MYATO - Whiteness Is Nothingness
  5. NIHILIST WAVES - The Only Good Fascist... Is A Dead Fascist
  6. SWELLS OF HAPPINESS - Aryans In Space

Here's a mini compilation released by Kaufmanesque Records a few days ago, intended as a voice against far-right tendencies with the industrial/noise scene, and the "white power electronics"-trend in particular. You probably are already familiar with some of the artists on this release, but nevertheless be warned that it's stuff only for diehard fans of harsh noise and power electronics.
