Regnvm Animale - "Brinna" / Norn - "Brenna" Split (2018)

Regnvm Animale - "Brinna" / Norn - "Brenna" Split

Year 2018
Genre Crust Black Metal
Country Sweden / Iceland

"This split release brings together Sweden's Regnvm Animale and Iceland's Norn for a joint release of furious blackend crust. 5 songs each of raw fury and disappointment with two distinct approaches to and takes on the extreme metal genre. About us, Regnum Animale is a Swedish extreme metal duo. Born in the soil of Swedish d-beat and crust. The songs circles around topics like freedom, and being trapped and unfree, alienation towards civilization and the state of human society today. The split is free to download from our bandcamp." This is clearly explained by their words. These two bands don't need introduction. Very active inside The Dark Skies Above Us Koll., they've finally released this work together. Great people that make great music. Enjoy. (only for connoisseurs)

Ramaskri - s/t (2016)

RAMASKRI "Ramaskri"

Year: 2016
Genre: Blackened Crust/Hardcore
Country: Sweden

Track List:
  1. Nollställd
  2. Hatet
  3. Vad har jag gjort?
  4. De måste dö
  5. Den hårda verklighetens folk
  6. Stockholm
  7. Blod på dina händer

bandcamp

For the fans of Scandinavian blackened crust: an album from my readers in Stockholm. Ramaskri started in 2009 as a punk band. This album was recorded in 2014 and mixed in 2016, also available on cassette. The lyrics deal with both political topics and personal matters.

[sömn] - "konflikt" (2016)

[sömn] "konflikt"

Year: 2016
Genre: Noise, Dark Ambient, Power Electronics
Country: Sweden

Track List:
  1. maktmakeri
  2. pengar=våld
  3. kartor
  4. produkt - människovärde
  5. för-/motakt
bandcamp

Minimalistic noise from Malmö, Sweden. The author is a reader of my blog, and the main reason he sent this release to me is his willingness to provide a radical alternative in a genre that's too infested with fascists. Of course, any feedback from the listeners would be appreciated.

"[sömn] is a one-person project based in Malmö. There has been three releases s to date, and the albums act more like collages of themes, with konflikt being the first political one, dealing primarily with class society and repression of progressive/revolutionary movements.

So far, the releases have been experimental in the sense that I have been toying around with samples, field recordings and images in freeware without knowing what I'm really doing. Usually, the tracks end up as some sort of dark ambient, industrial, noise, power electronics or some of their derivatives.

Although there are some tracks that I am happy with on my releases so far, I wouldn't consider my music "good". There is a fourth release in the making though, which I'm taking more seriously. Hopefully I will be able to produce a more coherent sound/atmosphere."

Regnvm Animale - "Et sic in infinitum" (2015)

Regnvm Animale - "Et sic in infinitum"

Genre: Black Metal, Blackened D-Beat/Crust Punk
Country: Sweden

Track List:
  1. Maya
  2. Ars Moriendi

  4. Osäkerhetsprincipen
  5. Förfallet
  6. Och så vidare i evighet
  7. Kassandrarop
  8. Inåt
  9. Grund
bandcamp

Be prepared to wish greetings and solidarity to Regnvm Animale, a black metal d-beat/crust punk band from Sweden. They define themselves as an extreme metal duo. I quote their e-mail in which they write, "The songs on this first release circles around topics like freedom and being trapped and unfree, alienation towards civilization and the state of human society today." Their first track Maya opens and builds suspense in a way that is very thrilling and does deliver. Their second track opens with a unique guitar riff that makes you ponder existence. Although, their second track Ars Moriendi sounds a lot like their fourth track, Osäkerhetsprincipen. Their third track has an equal balance of screaming, singing and instrumental interludes. Then with their fifth track, Förfallet, they build up another calm before the storm that brings you back for more. Their sixth track, Och så vidare i evighet, brings you back slowly again from the second coming of the calm. Their seventh track, Kassandrarop, brings you up to speed with a serious punk rock intro, along with some spoken word with musical interludes that I would regrettably attribute to early AFI (a punk band that isn't anarchist). With their eighth track, Inåt, you feel the closing coming, but don't fret just yet as there is still one more track on the album called Grund which has a primitivist sounding banjo with folk-sounding lyrics.

This album, released just a couple of days ago, was already posted on a number of blogs, and I think it has to be on here as well. I included the official bandcamp link ($7 for download), but if you want it for free, you easily can find it in other blogs. Better to buy it, though, because it's easily one of the best RABM-related albums of 2015, and such work should be rewarded...

I think both Mácula & SIBF need no introduction - both of these bands have appeared on my blog before, and both are very good. I planned to post this split shortly after it came out, but due to large amount of other stuff to review, I forgot to do it in time. Well, better late than never...

DRÅP are a self-described "death metal/crust/hardcore/whatever"-band from Sundsvall, Sweden. Their first 12'' LP "En Naturlig Död" ("A Natural Death") was released DIY, and this link is band sanctioned, yet it's also can be found in distros and their bandcamp. Musically it's Scandinavian crust in its best, and I'm sure a lot of my readers are into such stuff too.

  4. Rovdjursdrift

bandcamp

"Regnum Animale is a Swedish extreme metal duo. Born in the soil of Swedish d-beat and crust. The songs on this first release circles around topics like freedom and being traped and unfree, alienation towards civilization and the state of human society today"

It's a bit different from most Scandinavian crust I've heard (a bit more melodic, and the vocal style is somewhat peculiar), yet it's quite good for a debute EP. I agree with them that it'd fit my blog very well.

Ahna/Contorture - Split 7" (2014)

AHNA/CONTORTURE

Year: 2014
Genre: Crust/Death & D-Beat
Country: Canada & Sweden

Track List:

Ahna Side

  1. Living in Fear
  2. Terrorized
Contorture Side
  1. punk to pass the time
  2. level of freedom
  3. no
  4. equal boundaries
Ahna, as prolific as ever, is releasing another split, this time a 7" with Swedish D-Beat band Contorture.  As before, neither is particularly blackened.  Both have some political leanings which fit well with this blog.  I believe both the music and politics are of interest to the readers of this blog and worth supporting.  Ahna shows a really aggressive streak with Living in Fear (including a beautiful buzzing guitar attack) and then turns a little slower, drawing on more of their death influences for Terrorized.  Contorture brings a self-described "feminist fury" to their angry, fast d-beat attack.  They featured somewhat fuzzed out guitar work and a vicious double vocal attack.  This was my introduction to them, and it leaves me wanting to hear more.

The Ahna side can be downloaded from their Bandcamp, but for the moment, you can only stream the Contorture side.  I'll add a download link when I receive it.  In the meantime, I'll link to both Bandcamp pages.  Hayduke X

"Although apolitical as a project, Sönderriket supports the cause and struggle of those bearing the red flag"

Just like in case with Abyssal, I absolutely can't guarantee that you'll like this album, as it's quite experimental stuff - mostly blackened ambient/noise with spoken word lyrics. Anyway, you can watch this video first and decide if you like it or not:

Finally, I'm posting the last release in my queue of "releases that are long overdue to be posted". Now it's only left to check out the newest album by Prison of Mirrors, and I'll be done with that. As for this split - I think both bands need no introduction. Awesome bands, awesome split, recommended for everyone who waited for any new stuff from Marnost.

Våldsamt Motstånd are a band from Karlstad whose members also play in Babylon Disco, Kill All Humans, IYOV, Suppression, and Destruktiv. They have released four demos so far, one of which ("Wermland") I already have posted on my other blog. As much as I like Swedish crust scene in general, this particular band is definitely not my cup of tea, but anyway thanks to them for sending me this demo.

Våld (Stockholm) - demo (2005)

VALD (SWE) "demo"

Year: 2005
Genre: Blackened Punk
Country: Sweden

Track List:
  1. Min Vän & Bästa Fiende
  2. Våld För Mitt Hat
  3. Jag Vill Inte Se
  4. Nejet Ligger i Jaets Tjänst
DOWNLOAD

2005 demo from the Swedish band Våld, which I mentioned a couple of posts ago. Unfortunately, there's almost no info about them (I could find only their logo, and a couple of concert photos), but they were definitely better than Finnish Våld. They were formed in Stockholm, split up circa 2010 (exact date unknown), and had two vocalists (male & female, with prevalence of female vocals). Their homepage, valdet.tk, appears to be now defunct.

Of course I'm not going to post here each and every release from the Scandinavian (blackened) crust scene, because there are just too many awesome bands. But this band has had a great influence on the whole blackened crust & RABM scene, so I can't go past their newest album, "Paranoia". Some people think it's great, some consider it a letdown... well, listen to it and think for yourself. Right now Martyrdöd are on Southern Lord Tour 2012 in the US & Canada. See the tour dates here (you can also buy "Paranoia" CD in the "Store" section).

Spires of Belziar - demo (2011)

SPIRES OF BELZIAR "demo"

Year: 2011
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Sweden

Track List:
  1. Inverted cross and burning pentagrams
  2. Red dust and blood
  3. Nocturnal revenge
  4. Through the oceans of sorrow
  5. Great Zimbabwe
  6. The return of the black king
  7. Heathen invasion
  8. Desert mist
DOWNLOAD

Here's a myspace rip of demo tracks by another Swedish BM project, which appears to be an one man band led by Eric S. Spires of Belziar may be not an explicitly RABM project, but Eric definitely knows about our movement, and he even posted a link to SoB's myspace in our facebook group. Moreover, it indeed looks like African history and mythology could provide a lot of potential source material for BM lyrics - some of these tracks are obviously inspired by African history (namely Great Zimbabwe and Namibia). The music is your typical Scandinavian BM, quite good for a first demo.

Seeds In Barren Fields - "Sounding the Siren Song in Vain" (2011)

SEEDS IN BARREN FIELDS "Sounding the Siren Song in Vain"

Year: 2011
Genre: Black/Death Metal
Country: Sweden

Track List:
  1. Sounding the Siren Song in Vain
  2. To Feel
  3. Tomorrow Black Birds Fly
  4. Pastures of Plenty
  5. Destroy the Machines
  6. Leviathan
  7. I Natten den Kalla och Klara
bandcamp
A first full-length album by SIBF, a black&green metal band from Göteborg, which was released several months ago on Lundr Records. Musically there's a mix of melodic death and black metal (which is quite typical for the Gothenburg metal scene), except for the last track. Comparing with their first demo, this album is much more "metallic" and less "crusty". They're also about to release a split LP w/ Marnost on 12th of December (Marnost's side is already available as a preview).

Peregrine & Seeds In Barren Fields - split 7'' (2010)

PEREGRINE / SEEDS IN BARREN FIELDS split 7''

Year: 2010
Genre: Death Metal / Blackened Crust
Country: USA (Peregrine) / Sweden (SIBF)

Track List:
  1. In The Hands Of Liars (SIBF)
  2. You've Been Warned (Peregrine)
bandcamp / bandcamp
A long-awaited Peregrine/SIBF split, which should've been out a while ago, but there were some serious pressing issues. Both bands are strong supporters of the black/green anarchist ideology, and they're very simular in terms of sound. I especially like SIBF's side, with all these acoustic parts and sympho-black metal overtones.

I received this download link directly from Kevin Tucker of Peregrine, but it's a benefit release (just like "Green Scare" split), so it'd be good if you buy it.
