Forward To Eden - A Human Artefact

Genre: Death Metal / Hardcore /SxE Metal
Country of origin: Germany
Year: 2018

download

Forward To Eden was started in 2014 as a solo music-project and a vehicle for the message of veganism/animal- and earth liberation. The name is based on an old hardline zine, which basically holds and explains the manifest. I am aware of the controversy around this topic, but deliberately choose the name to provoke and incite. In the first incarnation Rat (Statement, Unborn, etc.) joined them on drums and they recorded a short promo, which although never was properly released (until the first compilation tape/cd in late 2016). In the second incarnation "The Vegan Warrior" (who choose to stay anonymous) joined them on drums and Tom O'Brien (Unborn, Noyade, etc.) on Bass. Under this line-up they released a demo cd, a split 7" w/ Content With Dying (ex-Fourth Crusade) and an EP (all from one recording session in early 2015).
The lyrical main-concern was/is about the fight for liberation and the life in this carnistic society. Besides the protruding diy-work (ethics they always held high) and the obvious 90's influence, a bunch of (partly subtle) anime allusions and movie snippets were/still are distinctive for FTE.
The upcoming debut full-length now is a full solo-work and combines everything they learned during these last 4 years of the bands existence. Even though it being a solo-project they are going to give some exclusive release-shows in different parts of europe (with lots of spoken word) to represent/distribute the record as much as possible. Also it being co-released with Catalyst Records from the US and having a CD version by Mark My Words (UK) as well as Tape versions by Diorama (Indonesia) and HEAL (USA) is a pretty big thing to them which they are very grateful for - and they , still believe that music can make a difference. The LP is entitled "A Human Artefact", which correlates with the cover artwork, a photo by Chris Jordan from his Albatross/Midway series... this is their manifesto (coming with the album) Since humans developed the skills to alter nature, they started to create what the follow-up generations would refer to as "artefacts". A cultural artefact is always something typical and defining for a certain era; something that reflects the spirit of that age. Most of these artefacts occur naturally and unintentionally, they are not primarily made to give information or serve a particular purpose for the posterity; but nevertheless they do. As they understand it, it is a sacred duty to conscientiously deal with the subject of the artefact of our generation and the artefact of humanity as a whole; will it be another object of exorbitant splendour, manufactured by any means, despite any consequences to others with the aim to simply line the pocket of some so-called "elite" individual? Will it be an outstanding piece of craftsmanship; designed to kill in an unprecedented manner, to ensure the survival of a nation or to inflict fear into the hearts of their enemies? When they look at our generation and search for "things that will last" and give an indication about the way of life which surrounds us, they cannot avoid seeing the facts of what the current populace are susceptible to and what those who claim to be in command are responsible for: that every year we discard of around 8,000,000 metric tons of plastic into the oceans - which adds to the 150,000,000 metric tons already impacting upon the survival of marine life, which in turn impacts on the survival of all life on this planet - we are urged to consume and give away our hard earned money to buy obsolete electronic scrap which is already outdated before all the stock has been sold; to make way for new models - so we have to keep purchasing in order to keep up with "progress", landfills are bursting at the seams, as more and more waste is created than designated landfills could possibly contain, leading them to be prone to producing more air pollution and environmental destruction. We have to ask ourselves: What do we want the story which we will tell to future generations to sound like? What do we want to communicate and pass on to the next generation? And, if the days of humanity are already numbered, what do we want the human artefact to be? They do not want to further contribute to a Zeitgeist of war and blight of all that is natural, at the hands of anthropocentric maniacal rulers, who do not speak or act for you or I. They want to instigate a culture of alteration, opting to deliberately become ostracised from the current repulsive miscarriage of justice of the natural law, which surrounds every fibre of our being, from every available angle. To restore the human nature, free from indoctrinated lies and egocentric, self-destructive mindsets, we have to accept our atrocities, change our direction and proceed forward to eden.

I can ear a lot of Obituary mixed with crust punk. I really appreciated it, instead of I don't like death metal.

"100% of the proceeds of this compilation will go toward: noborders20miglia.noblogs.org

The No Border Camp of Ventimiglia started on the 11th of June, when a group of migrant moved on the rocks in order to resist the police eviction, identification and continue to struggle for their freedom.

From that day solidarity networks from different territories have been working to build a permanent laboratory of resistance to repressive politics we see in action on borders.

From Lampedusa to Calais passing through Ventimiglia, migrant people in their everyday life are not free to move around Europe in search of a life better than a mere survival.

The No Border Camp host different collectives and individuals coming from different backgrounds, having in common the desire to oppose the discriminatory logic of power and to fight for their freedom of movement, not only for migrants but for all those people that are suffering from the restrictions of freedom.

"WE ARE NOT GOING BACK"

No Border Camp - Ventimiglia"

TDSAU facilitates another cool digital-only comp to raise money for The No Border Camp, a worthy cause for the crisis at hand. Mostly made up of crust but there are a good number of bands that really stick out. Was happy to see Cloud Rat on this as they're always great. The URA track is also pretty intense.

Brain Famine - "Exploding Paranoid Universe" (2015)

Brain Famine - "Exploding Paranoid Universe"

Year: 2015
Genre: Death/Grind/Thrash Metal
Country: USA

Track List:

  1. Intro - Site of Future Landfill
  2. Corrosive Pain Lock
  3. Hallucinating Contagion
  4. Wallow at the Lower Rungs
  5. Absurdist Euphoria
  6. Ignite and Repeal
  7. Exploding Paranoid Universe
  8. Personal Violene
  9. Selfward While Blind
  10. Implement Systematic Dogmacide
bandcamp

Brain Famine from Boston with a Ukrainian member begin their first track, Intro - Site of Future Landfill with a distorted voice mixed with ambience that then grips power chords with increasing intensity that is quite attractive to the ear. The second track, Corrosive Pain Lock begins with a sound byte of what sounds like English ultra-violence and follows through with vocals very well done akin to Marilyn Manson's voice, but with awesome fast paced black metal! Their third track, Hallucinating Contagion also begins with a sound byte from a movie of violence and leads to very carefully crafted power chords and the singer takes us through a different volley of awesome vocals mixed with very skilful and very fast-paced power chords!

Their fourth track, Wallow at the Lower Rungs carries the same vocals akin to skilled Marilyn Manson yet uniquely fast-paced power chords to create another masterpiece for the black metal scene! Their fifth track, Absurdist Euphoria begins with a violent gun shot sound byte with screaming that slows down from their usually ultra-fast tempo, but still of awesome quality. Their sixth track, Ignite and Repeal was a bit below par of what I anticipated from the band so far. The tempo was fast and upbeat, but the power chords and vocals lacked in skill which dropped the rating half a star for me. Their seven track, Exploding Paranoid Universe failed to amaze me with the lack of sequential patterns of their power chords. It seemed to attempt to cover up the lack of five star talent from the sixth track.

Their eighth track, Personal Violence was mediocre unfortunately as well. I get the feeling that the last half of the album didn't have as much effort put into it as the first, which is too bad. Their ninth track, Selfward While Blind begins with a sound byte and harkens back to some more than mediocre vocals and power chords more agreeable to this band's excellent artistically creative potential. At this point I am persuaded from dropping the rating from 4 1/2 to 4 stars. Their last track, Implement Systematic Dogmacide begins with a war sound byte and very attractive power chords at first, but overall a much more acceptable sound than tracks six through eight. Overall, I give them four and a half stars! **** */**!

Insane Attitude - "Swarming in Decadence" (2015)

INSANE ATTITUDE "Swarming in Decadence"

Year: 2015
Genre: Old School Death Metal
Country: Italy

Track List:
  1. Violent convulsion
  2. A.P.A.B. (All Posers Are Bastards)
  3. Psychotic hangover

Another old school death metal band whose members read and appreciate my blog, this time it's from Italy. They describe their style as "raw old school death metal with some thrash and hardcore influences", which I think is pretty accurate. This particular demo doesn't have political lyrics, but their debut 2008 demo did. They're also are good friends with Ü and Deiezione HC (local far-left wing hardcore band), and take part in anarcho/benefit gigs in social centers.

This album, released just a couple of days ago, was already posted on a number of blogs, and I think it has to be on here as well. I included the official bandcamp link ($7 for download), but if you want it for free, you easily can find it in other blogs. Better to buy it, though, because it's easily one of the best RABM-related albums of 2015, and such work should be rewarded...

Mad Trapper - Kill Us, Start Anew (2013)

Mad Trapper - "Kill us, Start Anew"

Year: 2013
Genre: Metalcore
Country: Canada

Track List
  1. Born of Hatred
  2. Ego Weendigo
  3. Pyres
  4. Innocent
  5. Fools
  6. Burning Moth
  7. Meaning(less)
  8. Magnum Opus
For those who might see the term 'metalcore' and go "eeeeeegghh", I totally understand. There's a huge influx of metalcore still in a lot of scenes that just does the same open note breakdown. I normally wouldn't post something like that here but these guys are exceptional in that they do metalcore "properly". That being extreme metal influenced by hardcore. This falls more on the metal end of the spectrum in that it has some very thrashy riffs combined alongside death metal/grindcore drumming.

I've played with Mad Trapper a bunch and they're really good guys and while they might not be anarchist or explicitly left-wing, they certainly maintain a decent worldview that sets them apart from the usual macho tough dude band.

They also have a new release coming out soon which has a single currently up for download.

The members of Morgon have sent me this full-length album which I overlooked back in 2012. Since the release of Morgon's first demos their style has shifted from raw black metal to death metal, which some people didn't like, yet the band remains to be DIY and anarchist.

Endor - "The Angriest Angel" (2014)

ENDOR "The Angriest Angel"

Year: 2014
Genre: Blackened Death Metal
Country: Netherlands

Track List:
  1. Intro: Satan's Return + The Angry One
  2. The Forgotten Son
  3. The Most Evil
  4. Tomorrow Is Dead
  5. Judgement Day
  6. Satan Prevails
DOWNLOAD

One more free release which came into my mail without much additional information. After a little research, I found out that Endor are a quite old band (formed in 1988). This album is said to be originally recorded on a IV Track Recorder in 2001-2004, and released by Torn Flesh Records in July 2014. The label itself is based out of Portland, and seems to be specializing in grindcore. Most of the bands from their roster are unknown to me, although there are at least two bands that appeared on my blog before (Ramlord and Gukurahundi). As for this album, it's pretty good, even though the lyrics seem to be on the level of an average raw black metal band. Recommended if you're into more atmospheric yet brutal kind of death metal.

Another new release that makes me think that 2014 wouldn't be such a bad year for our scene after all. Disact were formed in 2010 in Togliatti,  and they're playing death metal/grindcore despite having "dis-" in the name. This is their second album, consisting of 24 short and brutal tracks, and 2 covers, including a cover of Mayhem's "Freezing Moon" (covering this song wasn't a very original choice, I admit).

This is a rare and interesting compilation of Moroccan death metal & grindcore of the 2000's (2001-2011), sent to me by Nicholas (Blasphemyth, Theophagus). All the bands on this sampler are very obscure, and I don't have any info on them (except for Blasphemyth, of course). Most of the tracks are apparent rehearsal/live recorded stuff, so you can guess the quality of recording. That said, if you're into very raw,  80's style, old school death/black metal, or if you're interested in North African metal scene in general, don't overlook this compilation - it includes a lot of bands whose tracks would be very hard to find elsewhere.

Blasphemyth - "Blasphemous Hordes of Obliteration" (2013)

BLASPHEMYTH "Blasphemous Hordes of Obliteration"

Year: 2014
Genre: Blackened Death Metal
Country: Morocco

Track List:
  1. Melek-Oath
  2. Blasphemous Hordes of Obliteration
DOWNLOAD

Satanic death metal from Marrakesh (Morocco). This is an EP consisting of a single title track and a short intro, recorded in Neuchatel (Switzerland):

"Blasphemyth is a Moroccan death metal band that was formed by Rachid Nefariouz Sadomator in 2009, after the split up of Cogito Ergo Sum. They produce their music in an independent Maison in Neuchatel (Switzerland), even though the band is currently located in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Blasphemyth music is notably the outcome of widely varied tempos, often swinging from fast primitive sounds to slow, down-tuned passages similar to those performed by death/doom bands like Autopsy.

Motivation to submit music to RABM Blog :
- support for leftist philoshophy ;
- anti religious domination & political totalitarianism (Fukk Nazi scum & NS ideology) ;
- no boss, no master … only the self shall prevail ! give people freedom, equilibrium will come from it"

There are much more demos submitted to my blog in the recent few weeks, but unfortunately I don't have much tome right now for listening to them. Stay tuned and be patient.

First, I want to apologize for not posting here in awhile.  My workload at my job has gotten quite a bit bigger and I am now producing a weekly internet radio show (rageandfrustration.blogspot.com) playing some of the same music featured here.  I received this album from the band last September, so I am definitely far behind on getting some of these up.  AngoracoiD is a self-described "Satanic blackened mincecore, anti-fascist, anarchist" band from Italy.  The album is what I would consider pretty solid deathgrind, but doesn't break any new musical boundaries.  Well worth the download if, like me, you like that kind of music.

A first full-length album from Revolted Masses, whose demo "Seeds of Revolt" was posted here roughly 3 years ago. Musically, the album is very powerful (especially the title track), and the lyrical message is very decent too. Also worth noting that there's a lot of oriental melodies, so if you're into Middle Eastern metal, be sure to check out "Us or Them" too.
