Neckbeard Deathcamp are a joke black metal band from Bordeaux, France - the place where Varg Vikernes lives now, which is a part of the joke. In all seriousness, they are from Illinois / North Carolina / Michigan. They consider their kind of black metal to be "fedora crushing militant black metal." They are satirical towards the modern far-right movement. The band consists of Kriegmeister Hatestorm (vocals, piano, noise and production), Superkommando Uberweinersnitchel (guitar and bass) and Hailz Komradez (drums). They released one EP called White Nationalism is for Basement Dwelling Losers on Bandcamp. It went viral rapidly after its release.

Kastchei is a self-described "weird black metal" one-man project, which was previously featured on this blog among other artists in the "The Death Of A Modernist: Ritual vol.1" compilation. Here's a split EP with another UK-based one-man project, Grimmness. Both bands are left-wing and both of them are fed up of seeing people supporting bands who abuse their position to spout fascistic rhetoric. Grimmness' side takes a heavy blackened crust approach, and to be honest, I like it more than the Kastchei side (which has a more of a punky deathrock feel). The lyrics on the Grimmness' side aren't particularly political, while Kastchei's lyrics deal with "alienation and a lack of self-actualisation, drawing ideas from surrealism and existentialism/absurdism to explore the effects of capitalism on the mental states and social perceptions of human beings".

The vocals on this demo may be not for everyone's liking, but in general it's what I've expected from a "black'n'roll" album. The lyrical content on "Green Lion" is primarily based around alchemical symbolism and the human experience of society and self - even if the lyrics aren't as clearly political as on the first demo.

The Anarchist Black Metal group, which I mentioned in my previous entry, is doing very good recently. During the last month it became one of my main sources for new music, especially because most of the stuff I receive by email nowadays is not relevant to the topic of this blog at all. This album was also found there, and judging from the band's interview, they explicitly identify themselves as anarchists. Recommended for those who appreciates atmospheric BM with violin. I'm posting this without the band's permission, so there won't be a direct download link, but the whole EP is streamable off bandcamp anyway.

I continue checking out what I've received in my mail during the last few weeks, and here's an interesting release from an Edinburgh-based trio Godhole. It consists of two sides, each side featuring the same songs, but they sound nothing alike each other. While the side A is blackened crust/PV, side B is much more experimental and noisy, and I think I liked the noise versions of these songs even more than the original ones.


"The EP is a concept created by front man, Jamie Christ. The song titles are a deconstructed verse which was one of the last things written by his younger brother before he took his own life. Each song title is then taken as an idea to create lyrics about his brothers death, some from his own and some from his brothers perspective..."

There's one more 2-track demo from this project, but the author preferred it to be left unpublished, because it was hastily produced, and the result turned out to be just raw repetitive noise. I still think some of my readers would enjoy it, though.

I have reviewed this band on here before.  Here is there latest effort released back in March.  They are originally from Greece, but currently living in Scotland.  Openly anti-fascist, FaceOfAnother is making raw crust music with the occasional black metal element.  They are in the early stages of development for a band, but make up for in earnest passion what they haven't developed musically yet.

Scumpulse are a new blackened crust (or "necrocrust", how they call it themselves) band from Edinburgh, Scotland, started by some former members of Fifteen Dead. They haven't provided much additional info, but this kind of music is definitely welcome on my blog, and the lyrical themes are fitting too. "By Design" EP was recorded DIY at The Black Cave, Edinburgh (2014). A very good debut, be sure to check it out if you like metallic crust/hardcore.

Believe it or not, but first time I heard about this band was shortly after this album was released (2002 or 2003, I was only starting to get into really underground music back then). So you can imagine how I was surprised when I received a message from one of their members not so long ago. According to him, the band is inactive during the last few years, but they now have a bandcamp page with all their releases (mostly singles/EPs). They've played with the likes of Hecate Enthroned, Anaal Nathrackh and Ackercocke as well as Alec Empire, Die Krupps and Amebix.

I discovered Torture Garden a few months ago and have been really enjoying this album.  It is a good combination of black, doom, and a little bit of death metal.  While is was enjoying them and playing them on Rage and Frustration, my radio program, I hadn't pored over the lyrics closely enough to realize they were writing about the current economic crisis from a communist perspective.  You can find more of their music at their last.fm page here,  a preview of the album by the vocalist here, and a release announcement here.  You can download in a Pay What You Want format from their Bandcamp page linked below.  I highly recommend this release and hope you'll take the time to check it out.  - Hayduke X
