Coming from João Pessoa, Brazil, forming in 2009, Disacusia  are a crust band and in his first official studio work entitled "Tripalium", the band presents its indignation about the actions of domination and social control by the institutional power: Work as a mechanism of torture and imprisonment of the body and mind, criminalization of poverty, banalization of violence by the media, selectivity in punitive actions as a means of preserving and maintaining power over the means of production and capital. Crustcore / grind is the dominant sonority in the band, a style also characterized by opposing the oppressive practices of the system.

Timekiller are a rawpunk/hardcore band from Brazil. This is the short chat i've whit them.

"I lived in Rio de Janeiro for a few years where I started the band with Douglas (singer/songwriter) of deaf kids. We released our "bleed out" ep which was released on noise of hell records and was on cvlt nations top 6 raw punk records of 2014. Shortly after that a split with Timekiller and deaf kids was released. I am no longer in brazil but I am now in Vietnam and our "stagnant" ep is finally done mixed and mastered. I play all of the instruments on the records except for drums. The drummer on this record is chad lumsden from Collapsian. A kind of doom metal band from USA. While the band is no longer based out of brazil, we still maintain that the band is from brazil/USA because I often go back there and that is where much of the songwriting and recording happens. We are influenced by hardcore and Motörhead but still enjoy noisy atmospheric bands like swans. We try to incorporate that into our music as much as possible. A good mix of aggressive hardcore but also emotional and paranoid at times. We are looking for a label who will release this record in a physical format but until then we have it for download on our bandcamp"

And a final thing for today: a new EP from a Brazilian one-man project which supports our blog as well as TDSAU and the (RA)BM underground in general. As always, this EP is completely free for download and distribution. Hopefully I've posted everything I needed now, and will finally leave all the future submissions to the other contributors...

Escvro - "Os Homens e As Estrelas" (2015)

ESCVRO "Os Homens e As Estrelas"

Year: 2015
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Brazil

Track List:
  1. Entropia
  2. Estupidez
  3. Perante as Estrelas
  4. Silentium Universi (instrumental)
DOWNLOAD

A somewhat unusual one-man project from Brazil which released two EPs so far. Both are absolutely free to download and share, and one of them is presented here. Although Escvro identifies with the RABM movement, the lyrical content isn't political, yet very nihilistic and pessimistic - but not in the DSBM way. There are no guitars in Escvro, just bass. Everything is produced with very low-cost materials (simple CD-Rs and just one xeroxed sheet insert) and distributed freely. Both EPs are also available on 4shared (1, 2) in case if you don't have problems with that file host.

RuptürA - "Exílio" (2015)

RUPTURA "Exílio"

Year: 2015
Genre: Blackened Punk
Country: Brazil

Track List:
  1. Intro
  2. A Sociedade Industrial e seu Futuro
  3. Exílio
  4. Soledade
  5. O Amanhecer do Nada / Conspiração das Células de Fogo
  6. Futuro Primitívo
bandcamp

Ruptür(A) is a new anarcho-primitivist one-man project from Brazil. The person behind the project discovered anarchist black metal as early as in 2006, and since then he was influenced by many bands such as Black Trinity, The Dead Musician, Panopticon, WITTR, Mania, Iskra, Martyrdod et al. He was playing bass guitar in a band called Suicide Grindcore Collective, but left it after they recorded their first demo. The "Exílio" demo was recorded solo (instrument by instrument) during 2014 and completed in early 2015. Speaking of the sound - it's fine for a demo, but I'm not sure if it really counts as black metal... Rather just  blackened punk/crust.

Caim - "Celebrações Insurgentes" (2013)

CAIM "Celebrações Insurgentes"

Year: 2013
Genre: Neocrust
Country: Brazil

Track List:
  1. Celebração do (Contra) Tempo
  2. Celebração da Fome
  3. Celebração da Decolagem
  4. Celebração da Desmitificação da Coisa
  5. Celebração da Desordem e Regresso (pt. 1)
bandcamp

Like in case with Soror, this band was introduced to me by Share This Breath Recs., a Brasilia-based record label that tries to promote the local anarcho-friendly bands. I can't say this release is that metal-oriented (probably not any more than any average modern neocrust release), but it's still quite good and recommended to check out.

Country: Brazil

Track List:
  1. Besta

A very short demo (under 3 minutes long) made by RABM supporters from Natal (northeastern Brazil). Pretty intense stuff, somewhat reminding me of early Iskra. A debut album is expected to be out in the first months of this year.

facebook / bandcamp

That's all for now, although I still have quite a few unreviewed demos in my inbox. Most of them either came without much additional information, or there are other reason why I'd like to consult the other authors of this blog before posting them. Well, let's see what Preston, Hayduke and the rest of my co-editors have for a review. As for me, I'd rather answer my mail, resurrect dead links and make cosmetic improvements to the blog's design while I still have free time. My mood right now isn't particularly good for writing reviews, and considering that I even have doubts if should continue doing it, it's definitely a suitable time to take a break.

Answering the comments that say I should stay strong to do the much needed work: yes, I really appreciate that my work isn't in vain, and understand that radical work must be hard by definition. But speaking against a clearly defined enemy is one thing, and losing faith in a lot of those whom I once considered my allies - is another. Either way, this blog will continue to live on, hopefully with the help of my co-editors. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about gnwp.ru, an excellent music portal which got shut down about a month ago due to lack of funds for hosting (~190$). Their webmoney (WMZ) account is Z352456151349, but it looks like the have no paypal account :(

Deadtrack - "Helltape" (2014)

DEADTRACK "Helltape"

Year: 2014
Genre: Raw Metallic Crust
Country: Brazil

Track List:

  1. Intro
  2. Dirt
  3. Slave to Itself
  4. Born Convicted
  5. Blank, extinction
  6. Gutter
DOWNLOAD

Deadtrack is a solo project of Luis from Brazil, who recorded this short and raw demo by himself between August & October 2014. He supports the idea of RABM, DIY ethics, and generally the kind of bands that are on my blog. There's not much more to say about his debut, except that the main idea of it was to sound dirty, raw, loud and heavy.

I think both Mácula & SIBF need no introduction - both of these bands have appeared on my blog before, and both are very good. I planned to post this split shortly after it came out, but due to large amount of other stuff to review, I forgot to do it in time. Well, better late than never...

  4. Orvalho do Crepúsculo
  5. Cura e Magia
  6. Quietude 1
bandcamp

One more release from my inbox that isn't available for free, but still streamable on bandcamp, and intended primarily for the fans of DIY black metal and (to a lesser extent) dungeon synth:

"Iamí (means "night" in the ancient indigenous Tupi language) is a one man band from Brazil, intended to play a different kind of black metal, without losing it's roots, and increasing with the dungeon synth atmosphere. The lyrical themes goes from ancient shamanism practices, spirituality, nature, human consciousness and meditation.

This is Iamí's debut album. It contains 6 tracks which goes from black metal to dungeon synth, with very profound meanings, influenced by personal transcendental experiences. Produced in a small dungeon room with only a few resources, an old keyboard and a simple guitar, it got a very artistic sound.  The lyrics are in brazilian portuguese, but the music speaks to all"

There's not much information about the project besides that; however, anything done in the spirit of Do It Yourself and with a passion about this kind of sound certainly has a place in my blog.

Timekiller - "Bleed Out" (2014)

TIMEKILLER "Bleed Out"

Year: 2014
Genre: Raw Metallic Crust/Hardcore
Country: Brazil

Track List:
  1. Burden
  2. Kill The Judges
  3. Bleed Out
  4. Sinking In Shit
  5. Half Empty
  6. Sick Vision

bandcamp

Timekiller are a band that was started not so long ago by an American currently living in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The band is made up of members from bands such as Deaf Kids, Drone Throne, Prosthetics, and Speed Kills. They've finished their debut EP "Bleed Out", which they're very proud of, about 3 months ago, and now are hoping to get a label outside of Brasil to release it and help with distributing it. Musically, it's very fuzzed-out and distorted style of hardcore which draws influenced from old school speed metal as well as from Japanese and Scandanavian hardcore/crust.

P.S. If you want more of this kind of metallic/blackened punk from Brazil, check out the new EP by Insvlariz, which features mostly songs from their 1st live demo, along with a few new ones.

Gulag - "Black Flag" (2014)

GULAG "Black Flag"

  3. Darkened Hope

"Gulag is a brazilian band of Red & Anarchist Black Metal, DSBM and Cold metal, founded in 2013 by Mael Haxan and Azel Oliver. After the death of Azel, Morus joined the band in 2014."

I have no idea what they mean by "cold metal", but I'd say this album is a little bit of everything. There are DSBM parts, doom/drone parts (in the vein of In Flagrante Delicto), ambient and purely acoustic parts. The overall quality of production is quite decent, though. Of course I'm posting it from the band's permission, but if you want to buy it, hurry up: there are only 4 copies remaining avaiable up to date. The EP is indeed very good: fast and brutal, in the vein of the best old school death/black metal bands. Check out the video for "Forsaken and Forgotten":

BLACK VULTURE "Depois Disso"

Year: 2013
Genre: Experimental Metal
Country: Brazil

  2. Um Clamor Pela Estrela

I've already mentioned this album on my blog a few months ago, but I forgot to check it out back then. Now I was reminded to do so (thanks Satanic Demolition Corporation), and what can I say? I'd rather call it "experimental metal" than black metal or whatever else, because the band is obviously moving away from black metal to a more avant-garde kind of sound, even with some elements of free jazz in their music. Actually reminds me of some Norwegian bands that initially had roots in black metal, but gradually evoved into something very experimental, closer to jazz-rock than to metal (see the Adversum Records catalogue for some examples). Is it worth listening? Depends on you. I actually liked this album, but many people on metalarea.org and elsewhere (mostly your stereotypical metalheads) complained about it. P.S. A new Black Vulture EP "Melo" is going to be released July this year.

Overall, if you liked the other Brazilian blackened noise projects which I've posted on my blog before, this demo might be of interest for you.
