Askvald is a melodic black metal project started by one of my avid readers in mid-2013. He was playing in several bands and projects since 1999, and here's his first own release - a 3-track EP titled "Fernab des Weges". After several "try & fails" he managed to find the kind of sound and arrangements that's alright for him, and I'd say it isn't bad at all for a debut!  The lyrics on "Fernab des Weges" are mostly about being pissed off by modern human behaviour and today's blindfolded society(s). I'll be probably the first to post it, but re-distributing it is highly encouraged. If you want a contact info for the project, just email me.
P.S. I have a few more demos from other projects beside this one - but it's mostly noise, ambient and other experimental stuff, not metal, so I'll review it a little later. Stay tuned.

  1. The Echoes of a Disharmonic Evensong

bandcamp

Quite obviously, there's no need in introducing Panopticon, which is back with a new LP shortly after the release of a split w/ Falls of Rauros. As always, it's atmospheric, but not as atmospheric as you might think it to be - there are more "core" elements on this album than on previous ones. Personally for me, this kinds of sound reminds of Suicide Nation (one of Austin L.'s favourite bands). There won't be any download links in this post; however, you can check out this review by our comrades @ The Dark Skies Above Us blog.

The Olsen's Crypt (now called Nigra Eucharistia) was the first one-man project of Guayota from the Canary islands, who's also playing in Muert ("true" BM), Death Above (crossover thrash), and most importantly - he's a drummer and founding member of Oi! Se Arma (RASH):

So far, the only release of The Olsen's Crypt is this short raw demo from 2006, but Guayota says he's going to edit some new material pretty soon, under a new name (N.E.). If you're interested, keep an eye on the updates @ facebook.

Haltlose - "Questionable Fatherland" (2014)

HALTLOSE "Questionable Fatherland"

Year: 2014
Genre: Metallic Crust/Hardcore
Country: Finland

Track List:
  1. Poor and Stupid
  2. Mutilated Mankind
  3. Traumal Care in Southeast
  4. Injected Lies

  6. There Shall Be References
bandcamp / facebook

Metallic hardcore/crust punk band from Kotka, Finland: Toni (guitar), Pepe (guitar, vocals), Lauri (vocals), Samu (drums), Japa (bass). Here's their first demo cassette called Questionable Fatherland, released in March 2014. It isn't particularly "blackened" stuff, so they don't consider themselves an actual RABM band, but they do get lots of influence from this type of music and ideology. Their lyrics are mostly about universal absurd behavior of humanity.

Emerald Weapon - s/t EP (2014)

EMERALD WEAPON "Emerald Weapon EP"

Year: 2014
Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal / Drone
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Cascade Spring
  2. Enlightened Womb
  3. Self Reliant
  4. Nothing/Everything
bandcamp

One more Portland-based project which just released a debut EP (out on 13th of June and sent to me just today). Emerald Weapon consists of Frederick Michael Troina (guitar, synth, programming) and Matthew Earl Ramsey (bass, vocals). There's a bit too much synths/programming for my taste, and it's a bit too repetitive at times (especially the first and the last track), but for a first demo it's fine. Their sound isn't quite of "Cascadian" type, but pretty close to.

SBTDOH - "Simple Death" (2014)

SBTDOH "Simple Death"

Year: 2014
Genre: Harsh Noise / Power Electronics, Outsider Music
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. NEVER A DREAM SIMPLY
  2. 21g
  3. 10FIFTYSIX9
  4. WHY WAIT
  5. 38
bandcamp

"Isolationist ritual music from Portland, Oregon" made by one of my active readers. From what I know, he's making music for more than 20 years already, but this is his first album of HNW. It's a DIY cassette release, limited to 25 copies that you can purchase off bandcamp. The author himself considers it to be a piece of outsider art and "an open letter to the world, timely for the moment of harsh separation/isolation".

Krigblåst - "Power 'Til Demise" (2014)

KRIGBLAST "Power 'Til Demise"

Year: 2014
Genre: Metallic Crust/D-Beat, Blackened Punk
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Burn It All
  2. The Lies
  3. Awaken The Nightmare
  4. No Mockeries
  5. Watch Them Die
  6. Power Til Demise
  7. Shattered Reflections
  8. Destroy The Hive
  9. Voices of Wrath
  10. Cut Through
listen

A release which I forgot to post a few months ago, but better late than never. Krigblåst is a new project started by the members of ciikada, Leftover Crack / Choking Victim, Phobia, and Final Conflict. Here's a preview of their debut 10-track LP "Power Til Demise". It's well played metallic d-beat/crust, but only a few songs really have a "BM"-tinge on them (although their newer stuff is going to be more "blackened" for sure). The instrumental part of this LP was recorded in only two days, because all the members live in the different parts of the county, have their jobs and bands, and don't have much time to get together. Yet I hope they'll find enough time to record some more cool stuff.
