Crusty political hardcore with black & thrash metal influences, played by the members of Ire, Cursed, and The Swarm. Not as "metallic" as Slavearc, but still very interesting and deserving to be put on my blog.

Slavearc - "Structural Damage In The Blueprint Of Humanity" (1998)

SLAVEARC "Structural Damage In The Blueprint Of Humanity"

Year: 1999
Genre: Death Metal / Hardcore
Country: UK

Track List:

  2. Proselyte Of Justice
  3. Blade Of Purity
  4. Web Of Darkness
  5. Stem The Plague

Obscure straight edge death metal band formed by the members of Withdrawn in mid-1997. Not much is known about them, except that their ideology was often perceived as too radical even in the UK hardcore scene. After they split up in 1999, their ex-members moved on to such bands as Koreisch, Kevorkian Solution, Stockton Foster, Unborn, Cracked Cop Skulls, Touchdown, xCanaanx, and Kurohata. Out of these bands, I'm really interested in Koreisch. Their music was described as "Anti-Christian Doom Metal/Grindcore", or as an "unique mix of Grindcore, Doom Metal, Industrial Metal and experimental noise to to form their own never-heard-before never-heard-again sound". Definitely sounds like something I should check out (which I'll do as soon as possible).

Blackend Horizon - demo IV (2013)

BLACKEND HORIZON "demo IV"

Year: 2013
Genre: Raw Atmospheric Black Metal

Track List:
  1. I
  2. ... kalter Regen
  3. III
  4. Schneefall
  5. A land of war
  6. VI
bandcamp / soundcloud

The newest demo from this northern Germany-based one-man project. Like in case with all the previous demos, Till made everything (recording, mastering, mixing, playing all the instruments etc.) alone at home. The quality of production is still low (suitable for old school / raw black metal rather than to atmospheric BM), but Till hopes that at least the vocal work is better this time.

bandcamp / facebook / bigcartel

A compilation sent to me by my long-time reader and a founder of an one-man raw BM project Ravnblod, based out of Austin (TX):

"Musical themes of the band are Anti-Organized Religion, Anti-Authority, and Nature Influenced. Ravnblod came to be after writing material for Wrecca(still recording first album), there were songs that didn't fit the sound that I wanted for that band, and I did a solo project to still release the material that was written. The name came from old norse war flags that used to have emblems of ravens on them. So in turn the blood is from the war upon the war flags"

The compilation is stylistically diverse, ranging from raw USBM and black noise to acoustic folk and dark ambient. Mostly lo-fi stuff (comparable to "Music Against Humanity, vol.10" compilation), so be prepared. As you could notice, it features an ambient track by Jennifer C. of Møllehøj among the other tracks. Red River Family also have released her first demo (release #003), and Ravnblod/Necrocaine split (#003).

Ritual doom from Louisville, KY, with A.Lundr (Panopticon) and W.Crow (Wheels Within Wheels) in their lineup. This particular band has little to do with RABM, but I think at least their first demo should be on here. If you're interested, check out their full-length "For Winter Fire", released by Flenser Rec. in 2011.

Kompress - "Cosmic Rite / Ecocidal Greed" (2013)

KØMPRE$$ "Cosmic Rite / Ecocidal Greed"

Year: 2013
Genre: Blackened Crust, Raw Black Metal
Country: UK

Here's a very basic one-track demo from a Birmingham-based duo, whose founder has been reading my blog for about a year by now. This ten-minute track was recorded in one take in their practice room, and is intended as a part of a trilogy of songs exploring capitalism's war on the Earth. The lyrics are written from the pan-left/ecological perspective (however, if you are interested in songwriter's exact ideology - he's a member of SWP-UK).

"Musically I'm not really concerned with genre- I just take the bits of metal I like and leave out those I don't!..  This is a conceptual track about watching the destruction of the Earth by an asteroid from the vantage point of the surface of the Moon. Needless to say, it's not the most optimistic of ditties, but the intention was to use this perspective as a vehicle for Deep Ecological motifs and commentary on the needless destruction of our planet..."

facebook / bandcamp / soundcloud

"We're a two piece band from Greece , playing metal ( with a black metal nucleus as i like to call it/perceive it). I wouldn't label it as metal to it's classic sense but this where this music draws it's primary essence from. The good ( i like to believe) and 'raw' non-commercial side of metal music , where there is still ground to explore. We're playing black metal in terms of how we regard black metal to be ; as an awakening of the self on many levels. We're not playing black metal if black metal only has to do with blastbeats,no matter how much we enjoy hearing them in other bands.

I'm playing guitar and doing the vocals and a friend , Andreas, is playing the drums. We started playing together for about a year now and this album is our first effort. It's going to be released soon on 12" LP only (for now) through Venerate Industries , an independent label from Greece"

It's also worth mentioning that their vocalist/guitarist have playied in several other bands, including Brotherhood of Sleep (psychedelic doom), Now Exploding in Saigon (blackened hardcore), and Ancestral House of the Sun (folk). I've listened to the two tracks on NEiS' bandcamp page, and wasn't disappointed - it's awesome experimental BM/hardcore. Going to check out the rest of his bands in the near future.

Excellent post-metal from Tripoli/Sparta, discovered via the blog of Greek RABM enthusiasts (strongly recommended!) According to them, MC are a great live band, but of course I don't think I'll have a chance to see them live anytime soon... Anyway, this 4-track EP is very good - one of the best among the post-metal albums I've posted here in the last few months - and I have no doubt that a lot of my readers are interested in such kind of music.

  3. tombs
  4. rains

"One man lo-fi black metal tinged misanthropic punk. 'FindingYourRestingPlace', the debut EP from Almanac, explores the traditional black metal theme of nature and connects it to the deepest roots of isolation, depression and the human condition all in a short, raw, dark and abrasive sitting.

Posledná Minúta - "Späť ku koreňom" (2012)

POSLEDNA MINUTA "Späť ku koreňom"

Year: 2012
Genre: Black Noise, Grindcore
Country: Slovakia

Track List:
  1. Kus hovna
  2. Hmyz
  3. Rozsekať na kusy (Fire Walk With Me cover)
  4. Nabi zbraň

Release notes (grammar and spelling kept intact in order not to distort the meaning):

"Posledná minúta is a project which lyrics are strongly inspirated by misanthropic ideology from environmental point of view. It is project which uses blackmetal sequences from songs of RABM bands, then converts them into an instrumental raw noise and adds own vocals to it. For that reason of "recyclating" sequences, recordings may be spread for free only (and, of course, for non-commercial purposes). The only member of the project is a green anarchist, so it might be labeled as a noise/raw green anarchist black metal"

What can I add to this? I was already aware of PM's existence long before this demo was sent to me (because I've got a lot of visitors to my blog from PM's bandzone.cz page), but as for me, these tracks sound more like raw grindcore than black metal or anything else. Check this out if you liked the other Slovak anarcho-noise projects which I've posted here before.

Domini Canes - "Black Metal Is For Kvnts" (2013)

DOMINI CANES "Black Metal Is For Kvnts"

Year: 2013
Genre: Blackened Punk
Country: UK

Track List:
  1. traveller
  2. in mans own image
  3. shepherd
  4. social hate
  5. as the earth burns

"Domini Canes is a one man project from the UK playing crust influenced black metal that deals with mans place within existence and the individuals place within society while taking influence from observing everyday life and the institutions which dictate life such as religion, government and popular (and not so popular) culture, hoping all the while for a time when people can be truly responsible for governing themselves"

P.S. The cover art and the name of this demo was intended as a mockery of "all the black metal pseudo-elitism which seems so rampant these days" (DC).
