Vessel I is a new post-black metal project from Southern California. I had a little conversation with their guitarist/vocalist in our last.fm group few months ago, but in that time their records had sub-demo quality, so I decided to wait for a proper release. Now, their sound is way better, incorporating elements of neocrust and post-rock, and obviously influenced by Cascadian black metal scene. The name of the demo is pure post-rock satire (compare it F#A#∞ by GY!BE, who also are anarcho-friendly), and Vessel I have ironically referred to themselves as "hipster black metal" band. Obviously, they have a sense of self-humour, but I'm not sure if I understand their doctrine of "anarcho-nihilism" correctly. To me, their ideology looks very simular to the ideas of Stirner and Nietzsche.

  1. I was really intrigued by the name and description. The music is nice on this, but the vocals are killing me. Maybe that's the point?

  5. Free avantgarde black metal from Romania? That's interesting, I'll check it out. The only Romanian black metal band I've heard so far are Negura Bunget, and they're pretty decent. But I don't expect Romanian bands to be leftist, since the country is one of the most conservative in Europe, and the libertarian left always was very small there...

  6. I'm surprised this is on here. I'm close friends with the drummer. When he gave me the demo, he told me that the vocals on the first track "Finality" are fucked up because they recorded it too loud and were over re-recording it. As far as their "Anarcho-Nihilist" views go though, I'm not sure.

  7. Thanks for posting/linking this. Great stuff.

Was this released in some physical format yet? And are there other releases of this band? Can't really discern much from their blog.

  8. In case you read this Bernd, the only physical version of this was released by the band on random cdrs the day of our first show. There are other releases coming soon, very soon. A split with Airs will be the closest one coming out. Should be done in a month or so.
