Alarido - s/t (2011)

ALARIDO "Alarido"

Year: 2011
Genre: Blackened Crust
Country: USA
Label: Ecophagy Records

DOWNLOAD

Very good 4-piece blackened crust band from Las Vegas. They have recorded their first cassette in December 2010, and here's a rip of it. Of course the redistribution and reviewing of this tape is welcome, but right now I'm too tired to write a proper review... sorry. Anyway, here's a blog entry with detailed info about Alarido.

Heavy Cross - demo (2011)

HEAVY CROSS "demo"

Year: 2011
Genre: Blackened Hardcore / USBM
Country: USA
Label: Holy Throat Records

Track List:
  1. Dead Capitalists
  2. Moon Frost
DOWNLOAD

Heavy Cross is a new BM/hardcore band from Los Angeles, one of whose members sent to me this 2-track demo a few days ago. Can't say it's anything outstanding, it's pretty typical raw and primitive USBM (there's a lot of such stuff on Youth Attack Records), but it's only a first demo, and I guess there are some fans of such kind of music among my readers. Right now they don't have a myspace or anything, but they do have a bandcamp page.

In addition to my previous post: so far I couldn't find any album by a Hungarian band which is more suitable for my blog than this one. It isn't black metal, but it's very intense crust/grindcore obviously influenced by Napalm Death and Scandinavian crust bands. Of course Human Error is a political band... unfortunately their former drummer now plays in a RAC band, but the band is definitely anti-capitalist, anti-authoritarian and so on. My feelings after listening to this album can best be described by the name of the 3rd track. So fucking cool, indeed!

Full Bladder & Crucify Yourself - split (2002)

FULL BLADDER / CRUCIFY YOURSELF "split"

Year: 2002
Genre: Blackened Hardcore / Crust
Country: Czech Republic

Track List:

Full Bladder
  1. Obchod Se Smrtí
  2. Šapitó
  3. Svobodný Otrok
  4. Reklama Konzumu
Crucify Yourself
  1. Slzy
  2. Ukřižuj Se
DOWNLOAD

This is a very rare 7inch vinyl release sent to me by one of my Bulgarian readers, and I'll be probably the first to make it available on the net. Not much is known about both of these bands. Crucify Yourself was a 4-piece Czech blackened hardcore/screamo band with anti-religious lyrics, and Full Bladder was a very obscure blackened crust/hardcore band with political lyrics, again from Czech Republic. Both bands are no longer active.

The archive includes all the music and booklet scans. No copyrights or catalogue numbers are available, but there's some contact info in the booklet. Don't know if the majority of my readers would enjoy this split, but at least it's an interesting and very obscure piece of early Czech blackened hardcore/crust.

This band from Nizhny Novgorod (or from somewhere near it) is in "Connected Artists" list of our blackened crust last.fm group, but I can't stretch to call them black metal or blackened crust. They played neocrust / dark hardcore with female vocals, and they did it good... so, why not to post their first and only album here?
Xenia's vocals are easily decipherable, and as you may have already figured out from the band's name, the lyrics are mostly about nuclear war and related subjects. To quote the lyrics of 2nd track: "As long all we still believe in gods of light and benevolent leaders, we'll be just weapons in their hands, weapons against ourselves". Unfortunately, now the band is defunct, but some former members of Hiroshima 45 are now playing in another crust band, Step To Freedom. There's not many crust bands in the whole Middle Volga region, but hopefully it'll change...

A new split album of 3 Siberian and Kazakh hardcore/neocrust bands is out! Yes, there's neocrust in Kazakhstan... but currently there's only one band called Diary. Well, boring bandname, average music, bad vocal work - but at least it's good that people from that area are trying.

Lago's tracks are easily the best on this split - it's anarchist DIY neocrust in the vein of Spanish school, very simular to Ekkaia, Madame Germen and Etacarinae. They're probably one of the best modern hardcore/crust bands from Siberia I've ever heard of... (well, there are such bands as I.Witness and Season's First Rain, for example, but I just can't get into music of I.Witness, and I don't like Season's First Rain)
Бесконечная Зима (Neverending Winter) is a band from Tomsk playing some kind of blackened punk, consisting of some ex-members of Louder Than Words. Their music reminds me of early Заводь's recordings, and that's the reason why I'm posting this split here.
P.S. And finally: yes, there are RABM fans in Kazakhstan! At least Kvrsk, a new black/doom band from Astana, is fairly in RABM spirit. They have no official releases yet, but they plan to  release a split w/ (A)xidanc(E) and some other bands. By the way, Kazakh punk scene always seemed to be very simular to Siberian one...

Toil (MN) - "Hands Heavy // Hold Nothing" (2010)

TOIL "Hands Heavy // Hold Nothing"

Year: 2010
Genre: Blackened Sludge/Doom Metal
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Desert
  2. Vengeance
  3. Plague
  4. Together
DOWNLOAD

Yes, I know there's an USBM band called Toil, but I'm speaking about Toil out of Minneapolis (Minnesota), who are playing slightly blackened doom metal with female vocals. They're mostly anarchists, maybe a couple autonomous marxists, and they all enjoy black metal - especially RABM. I won't recommend this release to those of you who prefer fast and aggressive stuff; but if you liked The Austrasian Goat's albums (for instance), then you'll probably like Toil.

66° 33′39″ - "Demo" (2011)

66° 33′39″ "demo"

Year: 2011
Genre: Dark Ambient
Country: Russia

DOWNLOAD

4 untitled tracks of minimalistic, nature-inspired dark ambient made by one of our comrades from the vicinity of St.Petersburg, who don't want to reveal his identity. I think 66° 33′39″ is very simular to Adamennon both in terms of music and ideology. Looks like this demo was made rather for fun than for any serious plan, but we can expect a lot more output from him in the near future.

BTW, things with RABM scene here are getting better and better. Radio Tundra, a DIY internet radio station made by Irkutsk punks, recently featured a 2 hour long program about RABM, and there are plans of a first RABM gig in Moscow.
