Our Last Rain - "Burn Me Tomorrow" (2009)

OUR LAST RAIN "Burn Me Tomorrow"

Year: 2009
Genre: Acoustic/Ambient
Country: Russia

Track List:
  1. Burn Me Tomorrow
  2. Whisper Of Distorted Mind
DOWNLOAD

And finally, my newest discovery - an one-man ambient project from Russia, called Our Last Rain. Seems like it's somehow connected to crust and RABM bands such as (A)xidanc(E) and Crucified By The Sun, but the music isn't like any crust or metal at all: it's just ambient mix of nature sounds with some acoustic guitar parts, inspired by nature and winter. Of course, Our Last Rain holds anti-fascist and green anarchist beliefs.

Well, enough for today. Now I'm terribly tired with all of my work, and I already have posted here everything I wanted, so now is the best time to take some rest. Stay tuned!

More videos for you!

And some more stuff I've made for Youtube. First, my video compilation of Russian blackened crust and hardcore (featuring Antimelodix, 4Scums, Louder Than Words, Ork Bastards, and All The Cold):

It's one of my first works, and of course it could be made better. But... well, nevermind.

See also my video tribute to female fronted (blackened) crust bands:

Then, how about some political HIP-HOP?..

Yes, I make videos not only about RABM and blackened crust... Here's my video compilation of political hip-hop/rap from Russia (featuring Moscow Death Brigade, Missis Garrison, xEdge Jihadx, and Blitzkrik):

Don't know if you like such kind of music, but personally I like it. Especially Moscow Death Bridage - in my opinion, they're the best underground hip-hop project in Russia up to date:

MDC actually is a side project made by the members of a SHARP band Razos Rois. They don't identify themselves with any particular political ideology ("Politics are for the weak, own opinion is for the brave!", but for me they're more anarchist than many of self-proclaimed anarchist bands. And yes, I love how these guys are open about their 100% anti-fascist position.

ЗНАЙ СВОИ КОРНИ, СТОЙ ЗА НИХ, ЛОМАЙ СТЕРЕОТИПЫ!
KNOW YOUR ROOTS, STAND FOR THEM, BREAK THE STEREOTYPES!

The second (and the last) album by Life Is A Lie. Just like their previous release, it features an excellent mix of crust, black metal and brutal death metal / grindcore. The archive also contains some tracks by Parental Advisory (pre-Life Is A Lie).

P.S. I don't know much about the current state of the band. On Metal-Archives they're listed as "active", but other sources state that "they ended unhappy".

Life Is A Lie - "Life Is A Lie" (2002)

LIFE IS A LIE "Life Is A Lie"

Country: Brazil

Track List:
  1. O Novo Pagão

Life Is A Lie were a six-piece band from São Paulo, Brazil. They played an insane mix of crust, grindcore, death metal and black metal, not much worrying about belonging to any particular genre - so they were probably the first band in Latin America to mix crust punk with black metal. Their lyrics (which can be found on Encyclopaedia Metallium translated to English, along with detailed commentaries) cover a wide range of subjects: from anti-Christianity to philosophy and personal feelings, and even sex (no kidding, just read the lyrics for "A Danca"). And of course, political subjects:

"Apoiamos a revolta popular
Gasolina, garrafa, pedaço de pano
A arma do povo contra o estado é o próprio povo
Um novo homem, nova sociedade baseada em liberdade"

(a very loose translation:
"We support the people's revolt
Gasoline, bottle, a piece of rag
People themselves are a weapon against the state
A new human, a new society, based on freedom")

Il Male ("The Evil") are a metallic crust / anarcho-punk band from Italy, whose main sources of inspiration were Iskra, Suicide Nation, Norwegian black metal and Swedish melodic death metal bands. The quality of sound on their first album is far from perfect, but not too bad for a first release. The archive also contains an info sheet (though all the info is in Italian).

P.S. If you like such kind of music, you may also like Gelo. They're from Italy too, and just like Il Male, they're playing metallic crust with political lyrics (though not too "blackened"...). Get their s/t album for free

More videos made by me: RABM compilation pt.2 & Revolutionary Metal compilation

Hope you all have seen my first RABM video. Now here comes the second part, featuring Skagos, Mania, Alda, A Cloud Forest, Suicide Nation, Homvncvli, Ravensdöm, Black Trinity and Hospise:

And one more video made by me, featuring some death, thrash, heavy and folk (not black) metal bands that hold leftist (anarchist, or libertarian communist) views - namely Aztra, Subvertor, Espartako, A Punto, Lluvia Acida, Proletarier, Domination Obliteration, Proletar, Slaughter 2017, Eshelon, Totenmond, Neuron, Heaven Shall Burn and Arch Enemy:

In my opinion, videos are very good for propaganda - they're relatively easy to make, and easy to access from any part of the world via Youtube. I've also uploaded them to Rutube, but they haven't got much views there. It would be good to upload them to sites like Tudou or Nico Nico Douga (especially because most of the residents of mainland China doesn't have access to Youtube), but I don't know neither Chinese nor Japanese language.

Paganism vs. Nazism - Ophidian Forest’s statement

There's a pagan/black metal called Ophidian Forest, which is a result of international collaboration between 3 individuals who come from Netherlands, USA and Croatia respectively. Unfortunately I was unable to find any of their two albums anywhere, but their statement against nazism is pretty interesting:

"Apparently some people have added us as friends, thinking we are a NSBM band, and deleted us when they realized we weren't. Well, too sad about them. To avoid further confusion in the future, this is what Ophidian Forest has to say about such matters:

They can all go screw themselves. I for one have no respect for morons who think there's something cool about fascism. And surely they mean a more "cabaret-style" kind of fascism to decorate their misanthropy, because they have not the slightest idea how uncomfortable they'd feel in a totalitarian regime with secret police lurking everywhere, ready to put you in jail or torture you if your attitude went against the authorities.

Black metal should not be in support of oppression, but should hold up a big finger against the oppressor, or oppressive mentality, of Western Christian society. Stupid nazis whining about a few Jews here or there... well, boohoo, I say. Those who say the proud White Caucasian race is getting weak because of mixing blood and letting "strangers" invade their countries... boohoo again.
People complaining about such things should go and find themselves a woman willing to bear them 10 nice, blonde and blue-eyed Aryan kiddies (let's hope they won't come with any mental deficiencies!) and then see how unmanagable, expensive and backward-minded that is.

One reason why bands like to portray themselves as NSBM is because the Swastika and Nazism have become symbolical for hate in the Western hemisphere.
Being against Nazism doesn't mean I'm against hate, because there's a lot to be hated. Most of all, I hate the fact that there are idiots who worship a time when certain Germans were screwing up Europe with a system that failed to work, and caused a war that irrevocably ruined the position of our continent, making many formerly influential European countries powerless puppet states of the USA (that is a fact). What an archievement! This was all thanks to National Socialism and its unfeasible ideals.

Thus, being anti-Nazi doesn't mean we're all stupid, goody goody tree huggers (probably the false assumption some people make before they delete us) but are against the abuse and hijacking of history. The Christians have already done that and look what it brought us? We don't want to be politically correct, leave that to anxious people afraid to offend anyone and who think no one's able to take things with a pinch of salt sometimes.

Nazism, however, is not to be taken with either a pinch or a ton of salt and I take it as an offense to sanity and intelligence. To understand extreme thoughts is a show of open-mindedness, but understanding them doesn't mean that they are approved of. I understand the idea of wanting to shove everybody you hate and fear into a gas chamber and into the oven. In the end I think that's a waste of energy, gas and thought..."

And finally - a long-awaited full-length debut album by Morgon, a radical anarcho-black metal project from France! It's a truly great work, very raw yet melodic and atmospheric. Spiral Jacobs - "Haintology" (2007)

SPIRAL JACOBS "Haintology"

Year: 2007
Genre: Avant-Garde Black Metal / Post-Rock
Country: UK

Track List:
  1. Abyssal Descent
  2. Nihilistic Paroxysm
  3. Hecatombist
  4. Numerological Exacerbation
  5. Columns of Morgagni
  6. Transcendental Abomination
  7. Invocation of Ancestral Malevolence
  8. Daybreak over Desolation
  9. Immured in Sorrow
  10. Insidious Reconstruction
DOWNLOAD

"International Socialist Black Metal" from Northampton, UK. Spiral Jacobs is a project by socialist-leaning Northampton resident Dominic Fox, and the band name is a reference to "Iron Council", a steampunk novel by China Mieville (I haven't read it, but it looks definitely worth reading). The music on this album can be loosely described as depressive black metal mixed with post-rock and experimental electronic/ambient. Definitely not for the fans of "true" black metal, but anyone who enjoys really outstanding and experimental sound should check it out. Fans of Cascandian BM probably wouldn't be disappointed too. The quality of production is rather poor though, but not too bad for a self-released album.

"Guaranteed no white supremacism involved at any point in the conception or execution of any of these catchy numbers!" (c)

All these 10 tracks are available for free under a Creative Commons license. According to D.Fox, the next album will be called "Ontology of Violence", and will feature a more ambient sound.

The 3rd album by TLOR features much more "blackened" sound than two preceeding ones, though I'd still classify it as gothic metal (maybe with addition of "progressive" - this is really interesting music). Thanks to Miro for uploading this album.

Orisha Shakpana - demo (2006)

ORISHA SHAKPANA "demo"

Year: 2006
Genre: Raw Black/Pagan Metal
Country: Jamaica

Track List:
  1. Satanic Powers in Jamaican Hills
  2. The Offspring of Gashanami
DOWNLOAD

Orisha Shakpana isn't a RABM band, but it's a really unique project. It started in 2004 as a 3-piece band called "Dark Cirkus", but now Orisha Shakpana is an one-man project. Looks like there aren't any other metal bands in Jamaica at all, as well as an audience for such kind of music, and it may be the reason for Orisha Shakpana not recording anything new after 2007. However, during 2006-2007 two full-length demo albums were recorded, but they aren't available anywhere - with exception of these two tracks.

As of today, Orisha Shakpana is an only black metal project made by black people, with lyrics based on the Central African mythology (and I'm sure it's free from any kind of white, black, or whatever else racist propaganda). For example, the 2nd track on this demo is based on the legend of the African god of Vengance, Gashanami:

"I evoke the black bull
I evoke Gashanami
to continue his vengeance upon mankind

In the winter solstice
He haunts you
The black bull of Trelawny
His long black horns impale the human
The ghastly black bull
slayer of the Christans
Slayer of Myal, the white magick
Slayer of all good and pure
The bloodthirsty god of vengance wants your death
as he spreads across the island
behind his flaming eyes is death
He snorts nothing but smog and fire

Hail Gashanami - The impaler of Trelawny

The black bull was evoked
by the Obeah man
to send forth the legion of Darkness
To slaughter the Christians
Behold the demon bull rides out of the pits of Hell!!!!"

P.S. There's also a folk/black metal project in Cameroon called Ngos'a Bedimo, and they seem to be the only metal band in a whole Central Africa. Most of people there just aren't aware of existence of such music, but hopefully it will change. Here's their promo video:

"Influences: Los sentimientos más profundos de mi alma la visión que me arrastra entre las visiones del mundo infernal que me rodea, el honor la sangre, el orgullo el levantamiento contra el nazismo en el Black metal, el dolor el sufrimiento, olvido, pasión suicidio parajes de la vida tan profundos como el mismo recuerdo de donde provienen, el Black metal y el RABM"

This is certainly not the most people's cup of tea, and I need to say it first and foremost. Try to imagine Impaled Northern Moonforest playing RABM, and you'll get an idea about the sound of Legion Of Moon. Yes, it's just acoustic folk, only with "blackened" vocals. It may sound strange, but some of these tracks are catchy, especially the first two. Overall it doesn't sound more serious than Baphometro's 8-bit BM/punk, but at least the guy behind Legion of Moon seems to be aware of the RABM movement, and he really doesn't like NSBM.

Ives are a Florida-based anarcho-primitivist black metal/punk duo, who released their only demo "Burial of the Modernized Soulless" in 2008. As for me, they're comparable to Peregrine or Leper in terms of ideology. Though such views are too radical even for me, I must admit that their music is good. Pure rawness and hate, great for all lovers of raw black metal.

Petrychor - "Dryad" (2010)

Year: 2010
Genre: Cascadian Black Metal
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Dryad (I Make My Home)
  2. Gamma Leonis
  3. ...of Salt and Sky
DOWNLOAD

This 3-track EP is widely considered one of the best 2010 USBM releases. Yes, it's really good for a first release, and everyone who likes post-rockish, atmospheric black metal, most definitely will like it. Petrychor (which means "the smell of rain", I believe) is a new Cascadian black/folk metal project which is connected to nature as much as the other BM bands from that region. So I guess it would be safe to post "Dryad" under the "green anarchist black metal" tag. And instead of a postscriptum:

"Given that the first sentence of Petrychor's official bio is "In an increasingly faceless and globalized culture, it is of the utmost importance that we document the emotions and attitudes of the dissenter whose goals and practices are not condoned or made possible by large society," I think it's safe to conclude that they don't think particularly highly of capitalism"

The Dead Musician & Arcane XVII - split (2009)

THE DEAD MUSICIAN / ARCANE XVII "split"

Year: 2009
Genre: Black Metal (TDM) / Hip-Hop (Arcane XVII)
Country: France

Track List:

The Dead Musician
  1. Hate me, I'm so different
  2. Condemn me now
  3. Do you ask my cat if you can eat it?
  4. Your elite is nothing
  5. Diabolous life
Arcane XVII
  1. Le palais des sévices
  2. La souffrance
  3. Le vitriole
  4. Saturne
  5. (LES SANS NOMS): La boîte de kovak
DOWNLOAD

There are many good anarcho-friendly black metal projects that come from France. I've already posted releases by Ravensdom, Chambre Froide, The Austrasian Goat, and I hope to post the debut release by Morgon in the near future. And right now, enjoy the latest release by The Dead Musician!

Although his early releases were a bit weak and sloppy recorded, I can't say this about the tracks on this split. The Dead Musician is continuing to play "free-style black metal", and nowadays his sound is very raw (in a good way) and powerful. Yes, it's highly influenced by old-school black/thrash metal, but it's highly innovative as well. And the lyrics prove that The Dead Musician isn't just another generic black metal project: their topics vary from explicit political protest ("Hate me, I'm so different") to animal liberation ("Do you ask my cat if you can eat it?") and the statements against pseudo-elitist black metal poser crap.

And when it comes to Arcane XVII's side, be prepared for a big surprise. First of all, it's hip-hop. Moreover, it's hip-hop of a very dark and gloomy kind, comparable to Necro or Immortal Technique. I don't know about what they're rapping (for me, French language always seemed to be ballbreakingly hard to learn), but looks like their lyrics are political.

Overall, this split is an unique release, and I highly recommend to check it out (if only you aren't a big hater of hip-hop and rap).

The Austrasian Goat - "Witch" (2009)

THE AUSTRASIAN GOAT "Witch"

Year: 2009
Genre: Black/Doom Metal
Country: France
Label: Noxious Noize

Track List:
  1. Celebration
  2. Amenorrhea
DOWNLOAD

"Austrasia was the name of a forgotten land, between france and germany. Centuries after centuries, the people of Austrasia refused the christian influence and kept a relative independance until the 18th century. Through the ages, this land kept marks of ancient pagan rites, scares of deceases and major conflicts, and shroud of suffering, hidden behind apparent serenity. This green desert attests the fall of a civilization. An isle of freedom. A territorial incarnation of despair. THE AUSTRASIAN GOAT is a way to celebrate a cultural singularity, independantly from any national consideration. The Goat doesn't care about borders. His banner is as black as the depth of his wounded soul. The Goat incarnates a dark truth trough a fragile humanity"

It's currently the latest solo release by The Austrasian Goat, and I think this 2-track EP is more black metal oriented than his previous works. Official site

The Austrasian Goat - s/t (2007)

THE AUSTRASIAN GOAT "The Austrasian Goat"

Year: 2007
Genre: Black/Doom Metal
Country: France
Label: I Hate Records

Track List:
  1. Pyre Without Flames
  2. Embrace A Green Distress
  3. The Banks Of The Shadow's River
  4. The Fall Of Everything
  5. I Hate The Human Race (Grief cover)
  6. Silence Is Weapon
  7. Black Is Not A Colour
  8. River And Fog
  9. Unchained

I've already posted some splits with The Austrasian Goat, and now it's time for solo releases. The guy behind this project is also known for running 213 Records along with JeFF (The Dead Musician). He's also a member (guitarist & vocalist) of sludge/post-hardcore band Shall Not Kill. He's obviously very anarcho-friendly, since he worked with many RABM projects, and participated in the "Anarchists against the wall" compilation. The stuff on this album is good, though much more close to funeral doom metal than to BM.

Crucified Bastard - demo tracks & rehearsals (2010)

ⒶCRUCIFI(E)D B(A)STARD☭ "demos & rehearsals (myspace rip)"

Year: 2010
Genre: RABM / Blackened Crust / Punk
Country: Greece

DOWNLOAD

Well, we all are very tired of waiting for Crucified Bastard's first official release... so I decided to make this myspace rip. Of course, most of these tracks are far from finished (a lot of tracks without vocals, drum machine instead of real drums, etc.), so if you want to hear a finished product, it would be better for you to wait for the official release. Anyway, that one-man project by S. from Thessaloniki is one of the most radical RABM acts up to date, and i love how open that guy is about his political position. Hope for more good stuff from him! The cover versions of songs by Discharge and The Exploited are good, by the way.

Dyspnea - rehearsal demo (2006)

DYSPNEA "rehearsal"

Year: 2006
Genre: Crust / Thrash Metal
Country: Greece

Track List:

  1. Rich Capitalistic Assholes
  2. We Live A Parade
  3. Force Power With Law
  4. Army Of Clones
  5. Human Grenade
  6. Millions Of Screams
  7. By Our Own Hands
  8. Katara
DOWNLOAD

Dyspnea is a very radical political crust band from Greece. As far as I know, some of their memebers also participate in the anarcho BM project Black Trinity (or at least somehow connected to it). As for me, the sound of Dyspnea is more close to the mix of neocrust and thrash metal, and it's not bat for a first demo.

Etacarinae - "In These Dark Times" (2009)

ETACARINAE "In These Dark Times"

Year: 2009
Genre: Neocrust
Country: Spain / Portugal

Track List:
  1. The moment
  2. In these dark times
  3. Shunyara
  4. The hell we created
  5. Stench of death
  6. Abyss
  7. The mirror
  8. Incomplete
  9. Misery (Bastard)
  10. Moral/Immoral
  11. Lock up
  12. An almost certain death
  13. Seasonable piece of shit whispers nightmare boredom
  14. Fools swallowed click to oblivion

The most precise description of that band's sound is "dark cosmic apocalyptic neocrust". Actually, they sound much like other Spanish neocrust bands, so if you like Madame Germen or Ekkaia, you'd like Etacarinae. There isn't any big influence or black metal, but I think I must post it at least because they use samples from Blade Runner! ;) You can discuss this album here.

Stagnation Is Death are a 5-piece band from Poznan (Poland), who are playing death metal/crust (not without some black metal overtones!) and are into anarchist/antifascist/pro-environmental struggle. 2 of 5 band members also are straight edge. "Cywilizacja Upadku" is good stuff, I recommend to check it out.

Label: Panoptic Vision /Crime Scene /Anonymous Recs

Perhaps Scotland is a cradle of Celtic pagan crust. Even as early as in mid-90s there were some bands in Scotland who combined pagan beliefs and anarchist ideology (Sedition & Disaffect, for example). This split EP is one of the finest examples of that kind of music. If you like it, I'd recommend "Before The Dust Settles" LP by Scatha and "An Endless Betrayal" LP by Dagda for you.

The state of Oregon is known for many good black metal and neocrust band. Then, how about some Cascadian hardcore?.. Blood Of Christian Children come from Portland, and their sound is just insane! The only tack I didn't like was "March To Isengard" (it's too long and boring), all the others are very cool, and even die-hard black metal fans may like this album. Cool band name, by the way ;)

And if you want some more music from Cascadia, then here's some Cascadian acoustic folk for you. These tracks are made by a guy who played in a couple black metal bands in Oregon (Leech, Trollhammer, even Mania for tiny bit). He's a forest conservationist, so the energy of that music is focused towards ecology.

Yeah, I have even more bands from Latin America for you! Hatröss, a metallic crust band from Bogota (Colombia), sent me this demo tape for review. I know there are many people from Colombia who read my blog, and Bogota has a big SHARP & RASH scene, but I don't know any RABM/blackened crust bands from that region beside Hatröss. As for their first demo, it's a nice try, but it sounds much more like old-school raw crust punk than metal: I guess I'd appreciate their music much more if they made their sound more heavy and BM-oriented.

More Brazilian bands for you! MOTIM are an experimental straight edge hardcore/screamo band from Curitiba, Brazil. Their 1st EP, "Sobrevivendo a uma rotina de incertezas" had some black metal overtones, and their new release, "21'50"", is even more influenced by anarchist black metal bands (especially Panopticon). Furthermore, they started an atmospheric black metal project called Homvncvli, with purpose to play music influenced by Cascadian BM scene. Don't pass by!

First of all, I need to apologize for not updating my blog for too long. Unfortunately it takes a lot of time and effort, so the updates would be rare :( Nevertheless, today I have something worth your attention.
Let's begin from "Legião de Paga-paus", a 2008 demo from Brazilian 8bit/noisecore/anarcho-punk/blackmetal/whatever else project. Baphometro formed in 2006 by xDevTscHx and Howler in São Paulo, Brazil, as a parody "straight edge black metal" band, and release 3 demos since that time. All of them are available for free on archive.org, and I want to bring the lastest one to your attention. Yes, of course it's shit, but it's funny shit! If you like toilet black metal/punk mixed with SNES tunes, then feel free to check it out.

"Baphometro started in the year 2006, trying to play True Satanic (joke) Black Metal, against the NSBM and against all the melodic black metal trend.
