HUNTER GATHERER "Hunter Gatherer"
Genre: Doom Metal
Hunter Gatherer, originally a one man project, now with two members, continues their exploration of the natural world. I think there is a lot of growth here musically, including some very good moments throughout. This is less black metal and more doom metal.
Genre: Blackened crust
- Knocking Out National Front Teeth
- Bring Back the Piledriver
- Zero Hour
- Operation Zeus
I don't know too much about the band other than they appear to be from Victoria, Canada which seems to have a lot of these types of political crust bands. For a demo, (or really for an album even) this is pretty solid (though only slightly blackened) crust. Nothing revolutionary in style, but solid and enjoyable. Reading the lyrics makes it pretty clear that they are opening opposed to National Socialism. Available as a Pay-What-You-Want on their Bandcamp page.

AETHER "Metamorphosis I"
Genre: Ambient Black Metal
Aether is a new one-man project from Munich, Germany. Though still raw in terms of production and composition, Ravachol is very much opposed to racism, fascism, etc as well as being anarchist in belief. There will apparently be a Metamorphosis II coming soon. He writes, "AETHER is meant to be something changing, shifting, evolving. It tells questions like "can I change something in the world in principle?" and philosophical stff like that. There are no lyrics so AETHER leaves it open what the listener wants to hear or associates. Yes, it is very metaphorical and somekind of transcendental."

FACEOFANOTHER "The Crows Will Accompany Us To The End Of Time"
Genre: Blackened Crust
- A Hymn for the Dead (From Political Violence)
- Casualties of the "Master Race"
- Domination's Initiatives
- The Crows Will Accompany Us to the End of Time
- When They Say...
- Embrace the Eternal Winter
- An Effigy in a Forlorn Land
- Ideological Confusion
I have reviewed this band on here before. Here is there latest effort released back in March. They are originally from Greece, but currently living in Scotland. Openly anti-fascist, FaceOfAnother is making raw crust music with the occasional black metal element. They are in the early stages of development for a band, but make up for in earnest passion what they haven't developed musically yet.
Genre: Blackened Crust
Aurea is a three piece band from Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela playing no-nonsense, aggressive, slightly blackened crust. This is face melting music recorded live and released on 150 cassettes. According to the band, "Our lyrics destroy misconception of human as the center of the universe." This is a very solid and distinctive short crust demo, especially for a live recording.
Genre: Black Metal
The self-titled debut of the shadowy Philadelphia black metal project Hexer features a misanthropic, anti-Christian tale of the son of God joining forces with Satan to annihilate the human world. I had the opportunity to interview Phlegethon and Ansgar this summer while at the Gilead Fest and feal this project is a good fit here. The interview will run later on my radio show. Musically, this is stripped down black metal with a lot of thrash influence and a lo-fi aesthetic. Originally it was recorded individually onto cassette, but is now available on vinyl through Gilead Media. I'll post the Bandcamp link for digital download as well.

Genre: Lo-Fi Depressive Black Metal
- The Creeps
- The Bitch
- 苦しい (Kurushii)
- The Thinking Forest
Here's one of the demos that I promised to post a couple of weeks ago. Right now I'm mostly "resurrecting" the dead download links in my older posts, as well as doing some cleanup of my blog, but I have a time for posting some newer material too. Looks like Hayduke X. is back here too, so I hope all these demos will be reviewed soon with the help of my co-editors.
Yidak is an one-man project from Austin, TX, whose only member apparently doesn't approve of all the nationalism that's widespread in black metal, and definitely considers himself a part of our cause and movement. Unfortunately the quality of recording on this album is quite low, but he promises to put out more material in the not-so-distant future, hopefully recorded in higher quality:
"...An album I recorded by myself in my room on an Tascam 8-track. It's a compilation of sorts, being that half the album was recorded in one 1-week session, and the other half recorded about half a year+ later in about a month-long session. I would describe the genre as depressive/experimental black metal, with an emphasis on anger, sadness and storytelling. Some songs contain a great deal of melody, while others play off of more metallic riffing..."
"Yidak (ཡི་དྭགས་) is the Tibetan name for a ghost described in Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, and Jain texts that undergoes more than human suffering, particularly an extreme degree of hunger and thirst..."

PROTESTANT "In Thy Name"
Genre: Blackened Hardcore
- Never Forget
- In Thy Name / Hell's Insanity
Protestant is another band I had the opportunity to experience live this summer at the Gilead Media Fest. They are a hardcore band at their core, but this time ended up making basically a black metal album. The exception to this is that the vocals are still pretty much hardcore style vocals, but it doesn't really take anything away from the record to me. I won't go into too much detail here, but I plan to write a more complete review for my Rage and Frustration site. Also, stay tuned to the Rage and Frustration radio show as I'll be running an interview I did with vocalist/guitarist Cory Von Bohlen in a couple of weeks.
In terms of being a good fit for this site, lyrics like the following lead me to believe that they share many of the general sentiments found here:
Rapacious pigs come to control / All that has worth / The savage and the stupid / The inappropriate and unnecessary / Humorless bloodsuckers committing crimes / Flippant rotten beasts / Flattened cheap / Unfettered and rank / Fetid vile cheats / Tactless bigots swing / Reckless their necks / And if no rope / Then by hand - from Vultures
Cory is also the guy who runs Halo of Flies (a label in Wisconsin, USA well worth checking out) and says the following on his website for the label:
I maintain that diy punk/hc/etc is the best thing going right now. Support the network of friends that keeps it going. I will keep going until I can't anymore. Halo of Flies website

ANAGNORISIS "Beyond All Light"
Genre: Black Metal
- Eulerian Path
- This Cursed Blood
- Death Mimics Life
- Bountiful Godless Life
- Forever Night
With this masterpiece, USBM band Anagnorisis has reset the bar for what black metal should sound like in America. The music is features aggressive, thundering riffing, driving percussion, and the vocals of Zachary Kerr (which feel like they are shredding your soul) who became almost instantly one of my favorite black metal vocalists. I was first introduced to this band this summer at the Gilead Media Fest where they filled a last minute opening left by another band dropping out. Their live set was intense. It felt uncomfortable in the best kind of way. Though I haven't been able to confirm their political leanings (they may not identify specifically as leftist), I feel that their two key themes of anti-civilization and anti-theism make them a good fit here. As an interesting side note, on their first release Austin Lunn (of Panopticon) was a part of this project. Check them out at their Bandcamp page below.
