Plainwords - "A New World Lies in the Ashes of..." (2009)

PLAINWORDS "A New World Lies in the Ashes of..."

Year: 2009
Genre: Blackened Crust / Dark Hardcore / Post-Rock
Country: USA
Label: Lundr Records

Track List:
  1. Intro - Warehousing Children
  2. Catalonia
  3. Opacity
  4. A Letter From The Former United States - Outro
DOWNLOAD

Line-up:
  • A.Lundr (Panopticon): drums/growl
  • Jeremy Fitzgerald (Samsa): guitar/howl
  • W.Crow (Wheels Within Wheels): guitar/bass
According to A.Lundr, Plainwords broke up last year due to some ideological differences with their bassist and Jeremy having some issues with time due to his job as a tattoo artist. Crow and Lundr decided to keep going by starting a new band, Seidr, who is touring right now with Peregrine and Velnias. There wouldn't ever be a full length by this "supergroup". There is, however, one final demo, which I bring to your attention right now.

In my opinion, the sound of this demo is relatively far from black metal, it's more like epic crust in the vein of Fall Of Efrafa, with elements of post-rock and sludge. I guess it's a tendency among many blackened crust and leftist black metal bands to become more and more influenced by sludge and even doom metal, isn't it?...
Well, enough for today. Now I'm too tired and sleepy, and I need to answer a lot of mail tomorrow. And the last thing for today will be a new interview with Panopticon: read it here.

Заводь - demo (2009)

ЗАВОДЬ "demo"

Year: 2009
Genre: Blackened Crust
Country: Ukraine

Track List:

  1. В объятиях валькирий я чувствую, что мне пора избавиться от всего и обрести себя
  2. Больше, чем слово
  3. Юность во впадинах глаз
  4. О гордом имени и низких поступках
  5. Агония леса
  6. Человек
DOWNLOAD

Заводь are a new blackened crust band from Eastern Ukraine (Kharkiv), and their name means "creek of river" in both Russian and Ukrainian. Here's their first 6-track demo, which is very short (only about 4.5 minutes)... The first 5 tracks feature extreme raw blackened crust/powerviolence in the vein of Iskra and Life Is Hell. And the final track is obviously influenced by atmospheric black metal (especially of Cascadian kind). For me it's the best track on the whole demo, and I expect more stuff like that from them in the future.

Their lyrics are very symbolic and hard to translate. But at least I'll try to translate the song names:
  1. In the embrace of valkyries, I feel that I need to get rid of everything and to find myself...
  2. More than a word
  3. Youth in the eyes
  4. Of a proud name and low deeds
  5. Agony of a forest
  6. Human
Release notes: "Never thing that you do too much. Always try to do even more".

Antichrist - "Damned Those Who Prefered Bitterness Of Earth Than Sweet Delusion Of Heaven, Since They Only Knew How To Relish Of Life" (2002)

ANTICHRIST "Damned Those Who…"

Year: 2002
Genre: Blackened Crust
Country: Poland

Track List:
  1. Seein' black
  2. And game over
  3. Mindfuck
  4. End of investigation
  5. Struggle manifesto
DOWNLOAD

Antichrist were a part of Polish anarcho-punk scene since 1998. They have recorded 1 LP and 4 EPs before they split up in 2002. Now the members of Antichrist are playing in a few other bands, including Silence (very cool depressive atmospheric crust, check it out!)

Unfortunately, Poland always was a stronghold of NSBM, clericalism and ultra-conservatism, so I haven't expected any anti-religious and anarchist crust/black metal band to come from Poland, especially in the very beginning of 2000s. But Antichrist are exactly such kind of band. And damn, their music is GOOD! I can't believe that EP was released as early as in 2002, even before Iskra's self-titled album. I definitely need to get all other releases by them...

Wolvhammer - "Dawn Of The 4th" (2009)

WOLVHAMMER "Dawn Of The 4th"

Year: 2009
Genre: Blackened Crust / Sludge
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Cobrafist
  2. Bridgegoat
  3. Susceptibility
  4. Ceremonie Of The Stiffling
  5. Frostmaster
  6. Bathed In Moonblood and Wolflight
DOWNLOAD

The newest recording by Wolvhammer definitely sounds better than "Rich With Bloodful", but it's still raw and hateful. Their full-length album is expected to be recorded in the spring of 2010 in Semaphore Studios (Chicago ), and the presumed title is "The Black Marketeers of World War III".

"We wanted to take the things we loved about old school black metal/post-punk/hardcore/doom/rock and infuse that into something truly honest. No bullshit Satanism or sensationalism, just pure honest hatred for religion, capitalism, politics, sheep mentality and typical human behaviour. We wanted to write simple, memorable, and truly hate-filled metal anthems for ourselves and all the other blue collar, working poor, and generally unsatisfied people who are looking for something raw and classic as soundtrack to rise up and fight the status quo around them in any way they see fit to do" - their drummer H.R.

P.S. Don't you think that some of their song titles are somewhat weird? For me they are, but maybe it's only because I'm not a native english speaker... Though some tracks by WITTR or Skagos have weird names too.

Wolvhammer - "Rich With Bloodfuel" (2009)

WOLVHAMMER "Rich With Bloodfuel"

Year: 2009
Genre: Blackened Crust / Sludge
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Bathed in Moonblood and Wolflight
  2. Entering the Chamber of Set
  3. Rich With Bloodfuel
  4. Susceptibility
DOWNLOAD

Wolvhammer are a metal band from Minneapolis (Minnesota, US), who define themselves as "working class antichristian blackened sludge punk". Both of their EPs can be got for free from their blog. If you like raw mid-tempo blackened crust / sludgecore, them it's recommended for you to check them out!

Anarres - "Tarp Bajerio Ir Mirties" (2009)

(actually, there should be a cover; but it's too ugly so I decided not to post it, lol)

ANARRES "Tarp Bajerio Ir Mirties"

Year: 2009
Genre: Blackened Crust
Country: Lithuania

Track List:
  1. Duke Nukem (They Live)
  2. Shuttle
  3. Baime
  4. Maziausiai dramatizuotas tekstas
  5. O.K.del
  6. It has swallowed us all
  7. Kobenhavn
DOWNLOAD

If you have listened to 2006 demo by Anarres and are expecting the "postrock-ish" sound from their first album, then they're wrong. Now they're switched to deeply blackened crust... and they're playing it very good, I must say! The lyrical themes are varied from personal to political, and the music is dark and powerful. I don't know any other blackened crust or RABM bands from the Baltic states, but "Tarp Bajerio Ir Mirties" by Anarres makes me to expect much more good releases from Baltic scene.

Anarres - demo (2006)

(no cover)

ANARRES "demo"

Year: 2006
Genre: Post-Hardcore/Post-Rock with Blackened Crust overtones
Country: Lithuania

Track List:
  1. Historia ei ole ohi
  2. Raison d'etre
  3. Manifeste canibale
  4. Ambivalency
  5. Fuck the urstaat
  6. Titoreru
  7. Outro
DOWNLOAD

Anarres are an anarchist band from Kaunas, Lithuania, who recorded their first demo in spring 2006. Back in these days, they were playing some kind of screamo/post-hardcore/experimental post-rock. This kind of sound is very typical to Baltic bands - if you like such bands as Tesa or When My Authorities Fall, then you know what I mean. Unlike their 2009 album, this demo isn't very much influenced by black metal, but it's still an interesting release (but please keep in mind that it's home-made, so the quality of production isn't very good).

It's the last full-length release by that amazing Portland-based metal band (some members of which now are playing in Oakhelm and L'Acephale). If you're new to FotB, I'd recommend you this album first - it's for all lovers of progressive black/death metal!

Most likely there wouldn't be many updates in the near future, since I have too much to do besides this blog... but at least I'll try to do as much as possible. Maybe I'll make RABM-related videos, or to do some other stuff. Thank you all for your interest in my blog, and stay tuned!

Fall of the Bastards & Book of Black Earth - split (2005)

FALL OF THE BASTARDS / BOOK OF BLACK EARTH "split"

Year: 2005
Genre: Death/Black Metal
Country: USA
Label: Evil Morgue Entertainment

Track List:

Fall of the Bastards

  1. Slough of the Despondant
  2. The Path of the Moon God
  3. A Swarm of Swords
Book of Black Earth
  1. Olden
  2. Silent Through the Black Vortex
DOWNLOAD

This is the latest release by FotB (in 2005 they split up, and some of their members went to form Oakhelm), and I enjoyed it a lot. Book Of Black Earth are good, but FotB are great! It looks like they were more of a pagan metal band by their lyrical content, but I don't know for sure (I couldn't find their lyrics neither on Metal-Archives, nor on DarkLyrics).

Wormwood & Fall Of The Bastards - split (2003)

WORMWOOD / FALL OF THE BASTARDS "split"

Year: 2003
Genre: Death/Black Metal, Sludge/Doom
Country: USA
Label: Parasitic Records

Track List:

Wormwood
  1. Finite
FOTB
  1. Angelrot
DOWNLOAD

To be honest, it's my least favourite release by FOTB. I didn't like Wormwood that much, and the track by FOTB is definitely not the best too. But you can at least give it a try, maybe you might like this split.

Fall Of The Bastards - "Where Dead Hang From Trees" (2003)

FALL OF THE BASTARDS "Where Dead Hang From Trees"

Year: 2003
Genre: Death/Black Metal, Cascadian Black Metal
Country: USA
Label: Parasitic/End Theory

Track List:
  1. Ravaged Souls
  2. Wanderers of a Deserted Plain
  3. Put To Death
  4. Where Dead Hang From Trees
  5. Winds Of Torment
  6. The Day The Sun Went Cold
DOWNLOAD

Fall Of The Bastards may be one of the first anarcho-friendly black metal bands from the Cascadia region. I've heard about them as an ABM band even in early 2007, but I couldn't find any their albums then. J.Davisson mentions them in his paper along with other anarchist black metal bands (by the way, the paper is very interesting and I recommend to read it in a whole). The sound of "Where Dead Hang From Trees" is a surprisingly good mix of death metal and BM (as for me, it's more BM than death metal), and that album is recommended to anyone who are interested in progressive BM. And thanks to 7inchcrust for uploading this album (along with many more great albums!)

Embers - "Memoria In Aeterna" (2007)

EMBERS "Embers (Memoria In Aeterna)"

Year: 2007
Genre: DSBM / Doom Metal / Blackened Crust
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. War
  2. Suicide
  3. The Reprise
  4. Corruption
  5. Heroin
DOWNLOAD

Line-up:Kelly Nelson - bass, vocals
Steven DeCaprio - guitar
Timm - guitar, backing vocals
Jerry Buchanan - drums
Lilian - keyboards
Nine - viola (live)

Embers are a very interesting depressive black/doom metal project with male and female vocals made by members of the Bay Area punk scene. Speaking of their sound, I think they're comparable to Mania and other Cascadian black metal bands. Embers were founded by two former members of Oakland-based anarcho-crust/hardcore band Lesser Of Two. According to info I've found, "their lyrics are extremely political, and in a novel turn from most armchair revolutionaries they actually practiced what they preached". More info about Embers can be found on their myspace. And their debut EP is very good and certainly recommended to everyone who like progressive black metal (I know many of my readers do like it!)

Tisíc Let Od Ráje - "Gaia" (2002)

TISIC LET OD RAJE "Gaia"

Year: 2002
Genre: Gothic (Black?) Metal
Country: Czech Republic

Track List:
  1. The Devil
  2. The Lovers
  3. The Tower
  4. Death
  5. The Hanged Man
  6. The Moon
  7. The Hermit
  8. The Priestess
  9. The Star
  10. The Judgement
  11. Strength
  12. The Hierophant
  13. The Wheel of Fortune
DOWNLOAD

"Gaia" is the second album by Tisíc Let Od Ráje, and it features gothic metal with some more black metal overtones, than it was on their debut release - so I guess it will fit into "green anarchist black metal" category as well. Some alternative metal and hardcore influences are also present. Interestingly enough, their guitarist is a master in Thai boxing (world champion WKA 2003, S1 European champion, etc.). He's a strong supporter of vegetarianism, and TLOR have played on a lot of animal rights / ecodefense benefit shows. You can visit his website, if you're interested.

Slaughter 2017 - "New World Non-Corporated" (2008)

SLAUGHTER 2017 "New World Non-Corporated"

Year: 2008
Genre: Industrial Hardcore/Metal
Country: Russia

Track List:

  1. Nin

  5. The Dead Remain Young
  6. Set The World On Fire (E-Type cover)
  7. Despiter Song
  8. Kill Slave In You I
  9. Kill Slave In You II
  10. The Dead Remain Young (Spirit Power mix)

DOWNLOAD

Line-up:

Engineer - vocals, PC, guitars
Kirk - vocals
Napalm - guitars
Q.P. - bass
Venceremos - drums

I don't post much music of that kind in my blog, but I found this release very interesting. Slaughter 2017 is an industrial/alternative metal band from Moscow which holds radical left-wing beliefs (based mainly on marxism, but they're anarcho-frienldy too), and they're one of a few metal bands to state these views very explicitly. From their myspace:

"The teeth-grinding machine Slaughter2017 was launched in summer 2006 by vocalist and guitar player Engineer and drummer Venceremos. Soon the demo "In the Name of Equality" was recorded in the corporation with the female vocalist Olga. Before the Slaughter idea was realized a tandem Venceremos-Engeneer attacked The Wall not for the first time by working on project 1.9.8.4. (2005), participating in protest fests and left opposition actions. All that experience consequently determined basic Slaughter indexes: the hardest sound, politically aimed lyrics, extreme left-radical positions of the band’s members... We hope that the unity in music will become a clear and persuasive call to the united activities in the struggle against common evils: social injustice, racism and the tyranny of the state. We are united in love for the heavy music and in hate for capitalism!"

"New World Non-Corporated" is their first full-length album, and it's not bad for the debut release. Though it is obviously made by people who're listening mostly to punk and red&anarchist skinhead music, and have no deep knowledge of metal. That's because some tracks on "New World Non-Corporated" sound too much like Slipknot or Soulfly, which is kind of disappointment to me - I'd prefer if they sound more like Pitchshifter or Fear Factory. Anyway, their music is enough catchy, powerful, and aggressive. Personally I like such tracks as "The Dead Remain Young" and "Set The World On Fire" (which is a cover version of a song by E-Type, with nice female backing vocals). It looks like their 2nd album is already out, and it's even more political (made in collaboration with members of various SHARP, RASH, anarcho-punk and communist heavy metal bands), but I haven't found it anywhere yet. Hope it would turn out better than the first one.

  3. As the Murder Flies
  4. Maybon Shore
  5. These Boundaries Crossed

I've already introduced this Portland-based band to you, and here's their full-length album. If you like their 2006 demo and "Vikingtid og Anarki" by Sorgsvart, you would like "Betwixt And Between". More stuff by their previous band (Fall Of The Bastards) is coming soon.

Hospise - s/t EP (2010)

HOSPISE "Hospise"

Year: 2010
Genre: Dark Hardcore / Post-Metal / Black Metal
Country: Russia
Label: Chucky the Rat Records

Track List:

Hospise is a new blackened hardcore project from Moscow by members of Angel's Eyes (acoustic screamo / experimental) and Sangai (d-beat / crust punk). Their first EP features dark and raw, yet melodic hardcore/post-metal with black metal overtones. The lyrics are good, so is the music. The quality of recording could be better, though.

Minuala - "Крики Черных Птиц" (2010)

MINUALA "Крики Черных Птиц"

Year: 2010
Genre: Crust Metal / Dark Hardcore / Post-Rock
Country: Russia
Label: Headnoise Records

Track List:
  1. Крики черных птиц
  2. Сам себе враг
  3. Хаос во тьме
  4. You're living soul
  5. Кровавый рассвет
  6. Последний выстрел
  7. Untitled
  8. Миллионы жертв
  9. На линии огня
  10. Осколки
  11. Тихий плач ворона
DOWNLOAD

Minuala was started in 2003 in Petrozavodsk (Karelia) as a heavy post-rock/post-metal band. Now they're playing dark hardcore / neocrust with some post-rock overtones, and some of Minuala's members also play in Antimelodix. Though this album isn't as close to blackened crust as "Hellfuck" by Antimelodix, it's still very metallic neocrust - very powerful, dark and depressive (though a little repetitive, but it isn't a big problem...)
You can buy this album in many various distros - Bloodspit Distro, for example. Some more dark hardcore / ABM stuff from Russia is coming soon, keep an eye on updates!

Suicide Nation & Yaphet Kotto - split (2000)

SUICIDE NATION / YAPHET KOTTO "split 7''"

Track #2 recorded between 12/99 & 01/00 at Livinghead
Pressing Info: First Press - 1500 (Black Vinyl), Hand-screened band names on cover, folded lyric sheet.

With this split, I have the almost complete discography of Suicide Nation (except for the single "Creation Is Crucifixion"). And the song "Collapse & Die" presented on this split is just awesome. I think it's the best song ever recorded by Suicide Nation, and no wonder that A.Lundr (Panopticon) likes that song too ;)

Suicide Nation - "Suicide Nation LP" (1998)

Recorded in january of 1998 at The Devil's Outhouse. First album.

This is Suicide Nation's first full-length album, one of the earliest examples of "black metal made by hardcore kids". Personally I like it less than "A Requiem For All That Ever Mattered", but it's still a good album, and all the works by Suicide Nation certainly don't deserve to be forgotten.

Suicide Nation - "Suicide Nation 7" (1997)

SUICIDE NATION "Suicide Nation 7"

Country: USA
Label: Caught Red Handed

Track List:

Thanks to Eric (Contravene, A Cloud Forest) for sending me this release! It turned out that he was a bass player on this 7'', and he also have done the booklet with an environmentalist-themed article. All the scans (cover, artwork, lyrics and the inlay with the article) are included in the archive.

Leper - "End Progress" (2009)

LEPER "End Progress"

Year: 2009
Genre: Blackened Crust, Blackened Ska
Country: Canada
Label: Creepcore Records / Free Society

Track List:

  1. War Of 2010
  2. Wild And Free
  3. Sedition Not Sedation
  4. Destroy What Destroys You
  5. End Progress
  6. De-Civilize
  7. Face Yourself
  8. Resist The SPP
  9. Inspire//Change
  10. We Already Live In Ruins
DOWNLOAD

Many people have recommended me this release, and it's worth attention indeed. Leper are a misanthropic and very radical anarcho-primitivist blackened crust band, featuring some members of Iskra. You may agree or not agree with some of their views, but their music is good. Some sources describe their sound as "blackened ska", but in my opinion it's much less ska than "Beyond Good And P.C." by Dancehall Satan, for ex. Maybe their earlier releases ("Embarassed To Be Human" LP and various splits) had more ska influence, but "End Progress" is rather  deeply blackened metallic crust.

Seeds In Barren Fields - demo (2009)

SEEDS IN BARREN FIELDS "demo"

Year: 2009
Genre: Blackened Crust / SMDM
Country: Sweden

Track List:
  1. In The Hands Of Liars
  2. Reverence
  3. I'm The Antichrist
DOWNLOAD

One more rare demo for today, and now it's from a very radical green anarchist Swedish band. "Sprung from the vegan metal/hardcore act "through the mist of tears", with roots deeply entangled in punk and political hardcore, these seeds are blooming, bursting out into a fully fledged, and raw as hell, metal assault. SEEDS IN BARREN FIELDS engage, with black flags raised, in a battle against religious moral dogma, capitalism, nationalism, consumerism and social control. Promoting values of freedom such as (green) anarchy, animal liberation and gender equality as an alternative to being a part of a lost, scared and disillusioned mankind" - from their myspace. What else can I say? These tracks are good enough for a first demo, offering an interesting mix of blackened crust and melodic death metal. A split 7'' with Peregrine is reportedly coming soon, can't wait to hear it!

Aradia - demo (2009)

ARADIA "demo"

Year: 2009
Genre: Crust Metal
Country: UK

Track List:
  1. Hable Voz Silencio
  2. Fallow Eon
DOWNLOAD

Well, I'm trying to not post too much crust, but these songs are very hard to find. All the download links which I found in Google were dead, and it took a long time before I finally got this demo.

Yes, like those two bands I've posted before, Aradia is a female fronted band. Their drummer is a former member of Fall Of Efrafa (I guess you all heard about that band). Just like FOE, Aradia is a concept band. As a mythological character, Aradia (Herodias) was a daughter of Diana and Lucifer. She was sent to the earth to be the first witch there, and to make a revolt against rich oppressors with help of her supernatural powers and knowledge. The story of Aradia has a clear left wing context, so I haven't surprised that a pagan crust band was inspired by that story. Hope the full-length release by them will come soon!

Tisíc Let Od Ráje - "Tisíc Let od Ráje" (1999)

TISIC LET OD RAJE "Tisíc Let od Ráje"

Year: 1999
Genre: Gothic (Black?) Metal
Country: Czech Republic

Track List:
  1. Bliz
  2. V horach
  3. Corpse for you
  4. Zemì
  5. Stand
  6. Tribute to ecoterrorists
  7. Soumrak
  8. Zapovìzene
  9. Objeti
  10. Zniè ty, kteøi nièi
  11. Daleko
DOWNLOAD

One more female-fronted band, now it's from Czech Republic. Looks like they're somehow related to Czech hardcore scene, and their lyrics are about nature and (violent) defense of it. So I think I'd fit into my "green anarchist black metal" category, though I don't hear much black metal on this album. It's gothic metal with some BM overtones (though their later stuff may be more "black"). Formed in 1994, the band changed its lineup multiple times. That's how they looked in early 2000s:

and how they look nowadays:

Oakhelm - demo (2006)

OAKHELM "demo"

Year: 2006
Genre: Folk/Pagan Metal, Cascadian Black Metal
Country: USA

Track List:

Oakhelm is a pagan folk/black metal project by Pete Jay (a former member of a well-known anarchist grindcore band Assück), and the members of now split-up blackened death metal band Fall Of The Bastards (who're regarded as one of the first anarcho-friendly black metal bands from Cascadia). This release was recommended to me by 7inchcrust too, and it's very good for a first demo. I haven't listened to their subsequent full-length album "Betwixt and Between" yet, but I hope it'll be comparable with Sorgsvart's albums.

Wastelander - "Wardrive" (2008)

List of influences: Amebix, Warfare, Darkthrone, Venom, Abigail, Bulldozer, Barbatos, Tank, Hellhammer, Crow, Skaven, Carpathian Forest, Zeke, Sigh, Midnight, GISM, Axegrinder, Christian Death, ZOE, Burzum, AGE, Warhammer UK, Sabbat, Celtic Frost, Shikabane, Running Wild, and others.

This band was recommended to me by 7inchcrust, and this album turned out to be pretty good. If you like blackened crust, 80's thrash metal, and such bands as Dishammer or Ork Bastards, you'll definitely enjoy "Wardrive". Just look at the list of influences: there are early crust and black metal bands (Amebix, Venom, Bulldozer, Axegrinder, Skaven) along with Japanese black metal and blackened hardcore (Sigh, Abigail, Shikabane). And just like Children Of Technology or Ork Bastards, Wastelander have a post-apocalyptic image.

Yes, Dažd have released their first full-length album, and thanks to some anonymous who had posted a link to it in my blog. In comparison with their earlier releases, their sound drifted away from crust and black metal to sludge/doom and stoner rock. It's up to you to decide, good it or not.

buy it @ Hell Militia

P.S. Don't you think I'm posting too much blackened crust and too little BM (and other kinds of metal)? I have many more interesting releases to you, and I'll post them in the next few days. Most of them are blakened crust too, but there are also many black metal and other metal releases. Stay tuned!

Summon The Crows are a political blackened crust / melodic metal band from Oslo, Norway. This album proves that Norwegian crust can be no worse than Swedish. As for me, the more suitable stylistic definition for this album should be "crust metal", but "blackened crust" is applicable too. And according to their myspace, they really hate cops ;)

It seems like the band is inactive now, though not split up. Let's wait for the new album!

!ul.. - "!ul.." (2007)

!UL.. "!UL.."

Year: 2007
Genre: Blackened Metalcore
Country: Czech Republic

Track List:

  1. Intro
  2. Vteriny Osudu
  3. Hrdina
  4. Mit Srdce
  5. Sereme Na Vaseho Boha
  6. Nechteli Jsme Nic, Mame Toho Vic
  7. Narod Mrtveho Slunce
DOWNLOAD

The band's name makes not much sense (maybe it's from Czech word which means "hive"), but the music is good. If you like Timebomb and XDeclarationX, you'll definitely like !ul. The first few tracks are metalcore (in the vein of another Czech straight edge metalcore band, XNidalX), and the following tracks are getting more and more close to black metal. The quality of production is very good, and I think I'm starting to like Czech scene more and more.

P.S. The name of track#5 translates as "Fuck Your God" or something like that, am I right?

Dishammer - "Vintage Addiction" (2008)

DISHAMMER "Vintage Addiction"

Year: 2008
Genre: Blackened Crust / Thrash Metal
Country: Spain
Label: Hell's Headbangers

Track List:

  1. Smoke of Death
  2. Wish of Suffering
  3. The End Here and Now
  4. Exterminate the Parasite
  5. Werewolves on Wheels
  6. Pain in the Ass
  7. Into the Bong
  8. Asmodeus (By My Side)
  9. Blessed With Catalepsy
  10. Age of Disgrace
  11. Bomb in the Womb
  12. Vintage Addiction

DOWNLOAD

Many people say it's blackened crust, but I can't hear much of black metal here; for me it's just thrash metal mixed with crust. Maybe there's something wrong with my ears?.. Anyway, it's a good album. Members of Dishammer also play in a lot of other bands, but I haven't heard any of them.

Legion666 & Megiddo - "Outbreak of Evil" (split, 2004)

LEGION666 / MEGIDDO "Outbreak of Evil"

Year: 2004
Genre: Blackened Crust
Country: Canada
Label: Iron Bonehead Productions

Track List:

Megiddo
  1. Last Will and Testament (Amebix Cover)
Legion666
  1. Outbreak of Evil (Sodom Cover)
DOWNLOAD

Megiddo and Legion666 are almost the same band, since most of Megiddo members also play in Legion666. This split features two cover versions of classic songs by Amebix and Sodom. Need I say more?

Both Megiddo and Legion666 have some full-length releases, but I haven't listened to them yet, and I'm not in a hurry to. (honestly I don't like these bands that much, I prefer Swedish, Spanish and US crust).

Bombstrike & Legion 666 - "Temple of Blasphemy" (split, 2004)

BOMBSTRIKE / LEGION DCLXVI "Temple of Blasphemy"

Year: 2009
Genre: Blackened Crust
Country: Sweden / Canada
Label: Schizophrenic Records

Track List:

Bombstrike
  1. Dödens Utsträckta Hand
  2. Patent På Godhet
Legion 666
  1. Pessimistic Skies
  2. Blue Eyed Devils
DOWNLOAD

This split 7'' features two metallic crust bands - one from Canada, and another one from Sweden. Bombstrike are a Swedish band playing Skitsystem-like music: Swedish crust as its best. I didn't like Legion DCLXVI as much as Bombstrike, but they were one of the first in Canada to play "satanicrust", and they're definitely worth attention.

And finally, one more band who are mixing punk sound and ideology with black metal aesthetics. They're from Tomsk (western Siberia), and they're playing really blackened anarcho-punk! And check out these symphonic interludes, they're really great.

P.S. Archive includes all the lyrics translated to Russian and English, and all the release notes as well. The CD is available through They Live! distro.

Tötentanz & Rudö - split (2009)

A split album by two "satanicrust" bands - one from USA, and another one from Crimea (south Ukraine). Both bands are very close to black metal, musically and aesthetically. BTW, I've been to Crimea multiple times, but I didn't know there are bands like Tötentanz :/

20 Minutes De Chaos - compilation (1999-2001)

20 MINUTES DE CHAOS "compilation 1999-2001"

DOWNLOAD

Last known line-up:

Elo & Juli - vocals
Nofun - guitar
Guillaume - bass
Cyrille - drums

20 Minites De Chaos were active through early 1997 to late 2004 (don't know if they're active right now), and they were one of the first (if not the first) French bands to mix crust with various kinds of metal. It's also interesting that they had two female vocalists. According to their official site:

"20 Minutes de Chaos is a band playing kind of crusty-punk-hardcore-metal, call it as you want anyway. It is Do It Yourself for sure. Based in Dijon/France, the band exists under this name since early 1997. 20 Min. de Chaos knew many splits, breaks and line-up changes during this time"

The tracks on this compilation come from two splits, one with Alt TC (1999), and another with Execradores (2001). They also had a split with See You In Hell, but it features all the same tracks. Don't expect their sound to be very metallic - it was recorded in late 1990's-early 2000s, when metallic crust wasn't too widespread. Anyway, it's a very good compilation to anyone who likes female fronted crust and metal.

Poreia Sto Perithorio - split w/ Epithanatios Roghos (2005)

POREIA STO PERITHORIO "split 2005"

Year: 2005
Genre: Hardcore/Crust
Country: Greece

Track List:
  1. Systima aionias ipodoylosis (System of eternal enslavement)
  2. Xoris stigmi na ziseis (Without living a moment)
  3. Adeioi anthropoi (Empty people)
  4. Aytapati (Illusion)
  5. Piso apo ta kagela (Behind the bars)
  6. Poreia sto perithorio (March on the subculture)
DOWNLOAD

It's the 2nd side of Poreia Sto Perithorio / Epithanatios Roghos (or Epithanatios Ronghos - I'm not sure which spelling is correct), which 1st side I've posted not long before. It's not much like blackened crust, but it's fine too. Thanks for some anonymous for posting these tracks!

As for Epithanatios Roghos, they have split up, but a new band called Teleutaios Aionas (The Last Century) has members of them. Last year Epithanatios Roghos played together with Tragedy at the Street Attack squad at Thessaloniki, Greece.

Timebomb & Redemption - split (1999)

(sorry, no cover image available yet)

TIMEBOMB / REDEMPTION "split 1999"

Year: 1999
Genre: Hardcore/Metalcore
Country: Italy

Track List:

Timebomb

  1. Truth Denied
  2. Deep
  3. Damnation

Redemption

  1. The Song Of Dreams
  2. The Song Of Oz
  3. The Song Of Ghosts And Warriors

DOWNLOAD

Here comes one more release from a mysterious Italian band who were one of the first to mix anarchist sXe hardcore/metalcore with symphonic black metal. These 3 tracks by Timebomb appeared earlier on "Hymns For A Decaying Empire", but this split features newer versions of them, and it's much more heavy. If you like "Full Wrath Of The Slave" (the best album by Timebomb so far), you'll definitely like these tracks.

Redemption's side of the split is interesting too. Though the songs' names are ridiculous, they feature a very special approach to hardcore (and some female vocals as well).

There is very little further info on both these bands (I even haven't found any photos of them). Some mentions of Timebomb can be found here, though. And this split is very rare too, so I doubt if you can find it anywhere else. Don't know if I should post their LP "The Beat Is Here Fellas" (2001), since it's much more rock than hardcore or metal... but at least it's a good release too.

Blood In Our Wells - demo (2009)

BLOOD IN OUR WELLS "demo"

Year: 2009
Genre: Blackened Crust, Crust Metal
Country: Czech Republic

Track List:
  1. Studny
  2. 65
  3. Pud Sebezáchovy

Yes, I haven't planned to post anything this week. But right now I've nothing else to do, and I don't know if I'd have enough free time in the 2nd half of this month, so now I'll try to post as much albums as possible.

A link to this demo was posted somewhere in the comments to my blog about a month ago, but I completely forgot about it. I'm sorry, really :/ According to info I've found, Blood In Our Wells is a new Czech blackened crust band featuring members of an anarcho-crustcore act Mass Genocide Process, and some other bands (Tomorrow’s Hell, Your Choice, Abu Ghraib, Kruh). They're antifascists and vegetarians, and some of them are anarchists. I wouldn't call their music "blackened crust", but rather just "crust metal" - since there are much more influences of melodic death and even doom metal, than BM. The quality of production is very good for a first demo, too bad it's so short.

There are also an atmospheric black metal band called Kruh consisting of  the same people who are in Blood In Our Wells and Mass Genocide Process. Unfortunately I haven't found their album anywhere, but at least one song "Zima" ("Winter") is pretty good.
